Reads and Watches
July has flown by and I achieved very little.
You can check out what my July Plans were, but I’m just going to pretend that that was a test run and August is where the real work is going to start!
The only main achievement was doing a cliff walk (which took 5hrs) and I didn’t perish, so that’s pretty impressive.

July Wrap Up
Lord of the Reads
This is so embarrassing 🙈
My TBR was so small and I didn’t finish a single one of the books. I did start them all. But I wasn’t really in the mood for any of them…

TV Series
I’m genuinely struggling to work out what I did in July.
I only watched 3 episodes of Yellowstone, which I’m actually really enjoying. I spent most of my time watching those 3 episodes wondering if a. am I supposed to be rooting for the Duttons? and b. seated for the drama!
I tried to watch the first episode of Oh My Ghost Clients, but I just couldn’t get into it.
Not on the list, but I did also watch Netflix’s ‘Worst Neighbour Ever’, which is a documentary series. For the most part, I thought it was well done, but I wasn’t expecting the cartoon re-enactments, so that was a bit unsettling to start with. And some of the cases deserved much more depth.
Again, unrelated, I watched the first 3 episode of Dept. Q in July (which as of writing this, I only have 3 episodes left). I’m having a great time with this one! The acting is great, the Scottish accents are wonderful and the mystery is constantly making me think. Really glad it’s been renewed for a second series.
AUGUST
The structure that I was hoping for was not found in July, but here’s hoping that I can muster up a bit more for August. Here are the blog posts that I’m committing to for the upcoming month:
- 03.08.26: July Wrap-Up + Plans for August ☀️
- 10.08.26: DVD De-Clutter ep.1
- 17.08.26: DR/AsianDramas Bingo + New Board
- 24.08.26: How many books can I finish using Disney Land wait times?
- 31.08.26: August Wrap-Up & TBR || Plans for September 🍂

Lord of the Reads || August TBR
Once again, this beautiful game was created by Silvia at Library Unbounded on YouTube.
My companion for this game was Legolas again!
All titles are linked to StoryGraph if you want to read their synopsis.

Roll 1: Start a New Series
What the River Knows; Isabel Ibañez
I don’t know much about this duology apart from the tagline that it’s ‘The Mummy meets Death on the Nile’ and that’s exciting to me!
Roll 2: Read a Fantasy
Apples Dipped in Gold; Scarlett St. Clair
This is book two in the Fairy Tale Retelling series by Scarlett St. Clair. I’m guessing it’s going to give very similar vibes to the first one and while it’s not 100% my cup of tea, I’m sure it will be easy to read and a page turner in the moment.
Roll 3: Read a Friend’s Favourite Book
One of my friends gave this book 5⭐ last year. I’m not sure if I’ll get to this one as it’s about grief following the death of a dad, which hits pretty close to home at the moment.
My reading tastes don’t really align that much with my friends and I wanted to make sure I was reading from books I already own.
Roll 4: Read the First Book You See on Social Media
First book I saw, that I own, was Caraval. I’m actually so excited for this, I love a game/competition in a book! I also want to read the spin off trilogy and I know you don’t need to have read this one, but I’m hoping I enjoy this series as I’m sure it will add more to the reading experiencing of that one.
Roll 5: A Book over 300 Pages and the Title Starts with ‘M‘
Marrying Winterborne; Lisa Kleypas
Reading this book is not a want, but a need. I love when you have a shy protagonist in historical romance and she’s paired with a man who is either outgoing, or rugged and the latter is where our main man stands. I just know I’m going to love this!

Roll 6: Read a Book with Flowers on the Cover/in the Title
A Deal with the Elf King; Elise Kova
This sounds like it’s going to be so much fun and it’s Hades and Persephone inspired which I love. Younger me would have eaten this up instantly and I need to bring her energy back into my life.
Roll 7: Dead Marshes Tile
The Dead Marshes tile means you have to go back to the previous one (or the beginning) and then randomly choose a book from your TBR. I have my books written on little slips, so randomly chose from a bag and got Dokkaebi. This is the sequel to Gumiho.
I remember thinking that book was fine and I don’t know if what I remember of the plot is enough, but I don’t want to re-read it so we’ll see how it goes. I will say, this main couple does interest me a lot more.
Roll 8: Read a Book with an Animal on the Cover or in the Title
I adore this cover; look at those cows!
This book has been very popular since it came out in April, but I’ve heard a lot of mixed feelings about it, so excited to see where my thoughts land.
Roll 9: Series Tile
Spy x Family, Volume 9; Tatsuya Endo (trans. Casey Loe)
Another series, but I’m going to be good and continue one instead of starting a whole new one. It’s a hefty TBR, so I’ve popped a manga on and will continue with Spy x Family. I’m enjoying the action and setting we’ve got going on at the moment.
Roll 10: A Historical Fiction/ a Book with a Historical Setting
Mexican Gothic; Silvia Moreno-Garcia
I have a hit and miss relationship with Moreno-Garcia, but I’ve enjoyed her previous ‘historical’ settings so I have high hopes. Mexican Gothic is set in 1950s Mexico which is a time period I have no knowledge about, but I’m sure will go really well with Moreno-Garcia’s often lyrical writing style.

TV Series
As mentioned in my July wrap up section, I’ve started series 1 of ‘Yellowstone’ and I’m hoping to complete it this month and maybe start series 2. I’ve also nearly finished ‘Dept. Q’ and this is the next thing I’ll be finishing.
From last month, I’m rolling over ‘The Other Bennet Sister’. I need to watch this, I can’t stop putting it off! I know I will love it, so my plan is to binge it in one sitting.
‘The East Palace’ came out in July and the promo for it has me so excited! I’m hoping it’s not too scary, but to maybe off-set any fear, I also want to watch ‘The Matchmakers’. This sounds like it will be such a cute romance Sageuk.

Have you read or seen anything mentioned in this post? Let me know if you have any plans of your own in August!
Thanks for reading! I hope you’re having a lovely day and staying safe ❤️
