Save One Drop One || Dark vs Light Concepts Part 2

🖤🤍🖤🤍

Remember to stay up to date with the world, listen to those facing atrocities and help spread awareness/donate where you’re able to.

Yesterday, I posted part one of this Save One Drop One and it’s time for part two!

As prefaced in my first post, this turned more into comparing the MV and era concept/visuals due to some of the songs having similar styles. Please note that my thoughts on the concept meaning might not be the same as yours or correct😅

This Save One Drop One come from SODO Smile and you can watch their video here.

You can play along as I’ve linked the MV’s on YouTube in the title of the songs.

DAWN – MONEY vs ERIC NAM (FT. LOCO) – 못참겠어 (CAN’T HELP MYSELF)

Dawn’s Money is about wanting money and the pros and cons of having it, but ultimately asking why shouldn’t we want it as it’s what we need to survive. The lyrics are meaningful and the mv has a gritty and grungy style.

Eric Nam is cute, dumb and nerdy in Can’t Help Myself while trying to get up the courage to confess and giving up the pretense of being cool. It’s done in a cute way, but it’s not really that outstanding when put into contrast with Dawn. While I don’t necessarily understand Dawn’s fashion sense all the time, there is something cool about how he wears such different things.

Dark: 1 || Light: 0

IRENE&SEULGI – MONSTER vs TWICE – CHEER UP

Irene&Seulgi’s Monster has one of the coolest concepts I’ve seen – they’re monsters and enjoy it and fans have seen a Carmilla influence in the MV. There is definitely a supernatural/vampire theme throughout and I love it! The outfits and choreography are stunning!

Cheer Up by Twice is basically saying playing hard to get is the way to go. It’s done in a bright and fun way in the MV, incorporating many film references! I do love this concept, but Monster is so beautiful that it has to win this round! ♥

Both songs are great, but I think I would choose Cheer Up as I’m always in the mood for Twice!

Dark: 2 || Light: 0

CROSS GENE – BLACK OR WHITE vs KIM YO HAN – NO MORE

Cross Gene go out all with the intensity and fake blood in Black & White. This is definitely one of the darkest concepts I’ve seen – with each member being brutally murdered by their “alter ego”!

On the other hand Kim Yo Han has gone for “pouty cute baby” as the concept for No More as he tries to work out whether he should confess. The MV is bright and pretty. However, Cross Gene have such a strong and intense concept! I also prefer their song~

Dark: 3 || Light: 0

ONEUS – COME BACK HOME vs MCND – 떠 (SPRING)

I love the fact that Oneus released this dark, theatrical monster/supernatural epic in summer! The lyrics give the impression of a breakup not being taken well lol. It also gives me Anne Rice vibes with the costumes and theatre.

MCND’s Spring is a light-hearted song encouraging the listener to reach high and that they’ll be there to cheer you on. The mv is bright and has some cute sets, with an energetic choreography.

I love the message of Spring, but the concept of Come Back Home is top tier!

Dark: 4 || Light: 0

SUNMI – FULL MOON (보름달) (ft. Lena) vs RED VELVET – ICE CREAM CAKE

Sunmi is a sexy vampire in love in Full Moon. She is telling the person she loves to reciprocate her feelings before the night is through. On the opposite of sultry, Red Velvet are singing about a love that is as sweet as ice cream cake. The MV has a bright and youthful feel to it, mixed with a slightly odd feeling that works well with the group concept.

I love a vampire concept and Sunmi is such a performer that it works so well! It’s not surprising that it wins this round for me.

Dark: 5 || Light: 0

EXO – MONSTER vs ASTRO – 니가 불어와 (CRAZY SEXY COOL)

Exo have gone for an aggressive approach highlighting how love can upheave your emotions. They have powerful and intricate choreography which is the norm for them.

On the other hand Astro are fun and sweet with Crazy Sexy Cool, their love being very much wholesome and uplifting. There is a mix of magic and humour in the MV and it’s a lot more cohesive and interesting than Monster. It wins the round, but I will say that I do prefer Exo’s vocals.

Dark: 5 || Light: 1

GOLDEN CHILD – 안아줄게 (BURN IT) vs AB6IX – 답을 줘 (THE ANSWER)

I’ve talked about this MV/song before and the concept is so cool! The members are striving to survive a zombie apocalypse and shows their struggles, challenges and it’s so emotional! I love when Kpop groups give us mini films in MV form ♥ The song is also really good! I feel bad for AB6IX because in comparison, the really cute song about having a one sided love and bright mv is boring…

Dark: 6 || Light: 1

PINK FANTASY – POISON (독) vs CHERRY BULLET – Q&A

Poison is part of Pink Fantasy’s Alice in Wonderland arc and while there are clear signs of this, it’s quite minimal and I get more witchy/demonic vibes. It’s more evident in the lyrics, with the clock sounds and escaping lyrics. The choreography is really cool.

On the other hand we’re thrown into the bright and cheerful world of classic gaming with Cherry Bullet. Q&A is a fresh, bright song about having a crush and wanting them to get to know you.

While I think Poison is an interesting song, I do prefer the upbeat and cute Q&A.

Dark: 6 || Light: 2

BTS – BOY MEETS EVIL vs PENTAGON – DO OR NOT

Boy Meets Evil by BTS is an intro track, and to me it seems to be about being drawn to temptation and the battle you have within yourself. The mv is a dance performance by J-Hope.

On the other hand Pentagon are expressing how they just wish to have a laid back attitude and be straightforward when it comes to love in such a complex society. The mv is fun and playful and Do or Not wins this round ♥

Dark: 6 || Light: 3

BOYFRIEND – WITCH vs TEN&YANGYANG – LOW LOW

Boyfriend’s concept for Witch is a bit odd considering they’re vampires… But I think the witch part comes into play with the lyrics as it seems like they have been “bewitched” by a woman who they’re willing to do anything for as long as they stay by their side.

Ten & Yang Yang are singing about wanting the person they like to trust them and not take their love for granted. I really like the song and it will be a win for light as well, even though the concept is just bright and dancing in random places lol.

Dark: 6 || Light: 4

RED VELVET – 피카부 (PEEK A BOO) vs AESPA – DREAMS COME TRUE

In Peek-A-Boo, the moral is not to be a pizza delivery man because a cult/coven might get obsessed with you and play terrible games with you! Red Velvet do weird concepts so well and it matches the cat and mouse lyrics.

Aespa’s Dreams Come True is a remake of the S.E.S original and is about their dreams of love coming true. In both mv’s the members are fairies, but Aespa’s has a more delicate approach and display. They still have a sci-fi element, which adds well to the Aespa’s group concept and the whole Kwangya thing.

While Dreams Come True looks pretty, I’m more interested in the whole kooky world of Red Velvet’s Peek-A-Boo.

Dark: 7 || Light: 4

BLACK6IX – SWAMP OF DESPAIR vs ONF – COMPLETE (널 만난 순간)

Black6ix are singing about being in despair after a girl leaves them and I think they’ve gone for a generic “dark” theme, but the production of the music video is bad… they were done dirty.

Meanwhile ONF are happy, upbeat and passionate while they dance and sing about how they’re madly in love and that person completes them. The mv is bright and fun and the song is really good so they win this round!

Dark: 7 || Light: 5

And there we have it, I may be loving a lot of brighter and fresher concepts, I’m still a sucker for the darker concepts. I’m rather picky it seems, but when the concept is well thought out and has the right imagery, style and song it elevates it to the next level ♥

Final tally – Dark: 14 || Light: 11

Thanks for reading!

I hope you’re having a lovely day and staying safe ♥
