Lawless Lawyer First Thoughts || Episode 1

Lee JoonGi is too handsome and I feel personally attacked πŸ˜‚

Lawless Lawyer or Lawless Attorney is a TVN crime/prosecutor drama from last May-June. This drama has been on my radar for a while and I really want to watch a lot more of JoonGi’s work.

  • Director: Kim Jin Min
  • Screenwriter: Yoon Hyun Ho

Bong Sang Pil (Lee JoonGi) is a “gangster lawyer” who is well versed with the law and takes advantage of the loopholes. Meanwhile, we have Ha Yae Ji (Seo Ye Ji) who is a lawyer who has recently been suspended. She stands against the misogynistic aspects of the law and has a feisty attitude that gets her into trouble with superiors.

In the first episode we meet both our main leads and I love them both! Sang Pil is charming, funny and dangerous. These are all qualities that JoonGi acts well. And it wouldn’t be a kdrama without grief and prosecutors always seem to have the worst! Song Pil is using the law to gain vengeance for his mother’s murder which will be the overarching plot and I’m interested to see if we get other cases as well.

Yae Ji is wonderful! Every time she spoke out against that male judge I wanted to cheer for her! She talks back and fights for what she believes in and I’m excited to see what the partnership between Yae Ji and Sang Pil will be like.

Even in this first episode it’s clear that their chemistry is great and I love how they bicker. I hope these two will be very forward with each other!

The production value is great and what I expect with a TVN crime drama. I like the subtle changes in colourings etc. with the past scenes. And Lee Ro Woon, the child actor for Sang Pil is wonderful especially considering the upsetting content of his scenes in this episode.

And of course we have our villain – Ahn Oh Joo (Choi Min Soo) – who is definitely going to have a strong presence. I also feel like Yae Ji’s role model Judge Cha Moon Sook (Lee Hye Young). I love the feminist and moral work we saw her doing in this episode, but she’s too good and I’m always wary of those types in these dramas haha πŸ˜‚

At this point Lawless Lawyer looks to be a fun, action-packed and emotional drama that I am all here for!

  1. Hayleigh, this is a rip roaring show. Everyone is so good. Our main couple – dynamite. Both are fab. Some of the best baddies of all time too (just wonderful acting). Choi Min Soo – you just know you are in for a treat. Our Judge is a great character – and you are right to be wary, but she is awesome all the same. Also, her offsider is a treat too.

Show has a little blip late in the piece, but gets back on track pretty quick. I think it’s clear the cast loved making this one. There are snippets on YouTube from memory re the filming of various scenes. For me – one of the best shows out there!

  2. I am currently watching this, and fell in love with Lee Joon Gi. I first met him through moon lovers, but he didn’t get my attraction in that drama. In lawless lawyer, he is super handsome ❀ I know he was handsome in moon lovers too. But here I fell in love with him. πŸ˜…πŸ˜ It is funny how he doesn’t want to get dirt on his coat whenever he had to fight. πŸ˜†

    • It’s the playful bad boy vibe that really reels them in haha πŸ˜‚ His instagram is a pretty good place to see him being handsome! I don’t think I could watch Moon Lovers – it has a sad ending right? I hope you keep loving Joon Gi and his handsome face haha β™₯
