How am I only just watching this series in 2018?!
Answer: I’m always late to the game hahaha ^^”
Sotus is a 2016 Thai Drama that is an adaptation of the web novel “SOTUS พี่ว้ากตัวร้ายกับนายปีหนึ่ง” by BitterSweet.
SOTUS is a form of ‘hazing’ or ‘orientation process’ for seniors to bring freshman into their department. The idea of SOTUS is very interesting and I understand where both sides of the argument stand, however, I mostly think the concept of SOTUS is too harsh on the freshman students. I don’t know if this is a true portrayal of SOTUS or whether this still occurs in Thailand. In this drama, we follow freshman going through SOTUS in the Engineering department.
Our leads are Kongphop “Kong” (Prachaya Ruangroj – Singto), an engineering freshman and P’Arthit (Perawat Sangpotirat – Krist), a senior and head hazer.
Kongphop is a little sass queen who loves to stand up for his friends or literally just anyone. He makes life difficult for P’Arthit and then once the hate feelings turn romantic, he still makes his life difficult haha!
On the otherhand, P’Arthit is a tough senior, who demands respect and takes his role as head hazer incredibly seriously. He is also the cutest little pumpkin, who gets so shy and love pink milk. Like how precious ♥
The hazing team, P’Arthit, Bright, Knot, Tutah and Perm, believe strongly in the process of SOTUS. At first they are rigid and strict (however, they have their reasons which gives understanding to their actions). In reality, these seniors are dorks haha
The freshmans that we get to know during this drama are Kongphop, Em, May, Wad, Tew, Oak, Ma-prang and Praepailin. I felt that the friendships with these classmates were less formulated. However, there are elements of humour and endearing moments.
The relationship between Kongphop and P’Arthit is the main focus and it builds rather nicely and it culminates in so much cuteness. In the last few episodes, I couldn’t stop smiling haha ♥
Of course there is angst, but it’s well done and the pay off is wonderful! The love “rivals” don’t impose themselves in the lives of the leads (unlike kdramas haha). I actually felt for May and I found her so cute. I wish they could have expanded on her growing friendship with Em (hopefully that happens in Sotus S).
If you are looking for a cute drama, that is 15 episodes and readily available (with eng subs *praise the heavens*) on YouTube, then I would definitely recommend this drama! So, I’m just going to leave you with this:
You’re welcome haha :p go watch some BL ♥
Thanks for reading! I hope you are having a lovely day~
