Hello! I used to do reviews of Kpop songs/videos and I’ve become so distanced from the Kpop world that I’m only listening to things from years ago ^^”
So I looked at Soompi’s Kpop Music Chart and I’m going to go through the Top 5 songs. I assume there will be recurring songs in the Top 5 spots in the coming weeks, so I’ll move down the list. I hope you like it and if you have any suggestions, let me know 🙂
The following songs are from Week 4 (December 2017)
1. Beautiful – Wanna One
Before watching/listening to this song, I thought I knew nothing about this group. But then while watching the video, I saw MinHyun (formerly in Nu’est) and I realised they were from a competition programme, Produce 101 I believe (correct me if I’m wrong).
The first minute was so relaxing, their voices were soothing and went well together and then the chorus came! It was still relaxing, but in a powerful, manly way. Does that even make sense?
Also, the guy with the deep voice 😍. All of their voices worked really well together and I can see why each was picked to be a part of the group. I don’t think I’ll be learning the names unless they become one of my faves (I’m too old to remember names hahaha). They also all seemed to have a good amount of lines each which is refreshing considering how many there are. Of course there were a couple with a whole lot more, sexy deep voice guy being one of them!
I’m looking forward to what they do in the future.
Also, yes I just watched the performance video. I prefer those and the “movie version” is 8 minutes. I don’t have time for that, I don’t know them haha
2. Peek-A-Boo – Red Velvet
Whenever I watch or listen to a Red Velvet song, I’m reminded of f(x). The aesthetic of their videos is so wonderful, quirky and on the edgier side which is often odd for SMent. (I just wish SM put as much effort into my f(x) babies as RV).
All of the women in this group have great voices and this song really shows that. The chorus, as always with a Red Velvet song is such a good bop! They are really finding their niche in the kpop scene and I love it!
3. Emptiness in Memory – Naul
This is what I love about having gotten into Kpop. The beautiful ballad singers! Naul’s voice is amazing and breath-taking. The emotion in his voice and the power makes the song come to life.
The video compliments the vocals with an atmospheric and subtle colour scheme. I would definitely recommend listening to Naul’s ballads as they are stunning!
4. Snow – Zion T. feat. Lee MunSae
I hate people who say, why bother listening if you can’t understand the language. Language doesn’t have anything to do with understanding and connecting with what the artist is conveying.
Suffice to say, this made me cry. How dare Zion T. have such a unique, yet soothing voice and Lee MunSae for having a beautiful voice! The story within the video is charming yet heartbreaking and I’m most definitely going to be thinking about this video for a long time, which is how I felt with some of Zion T’s other songs/videos.
Everything about this stunned me. This is why I’m glad Zion T. made his move to YG. I feel like YG has the resources and scope for such a performer.
5. DNA – BTS
BTS? Who are they? LOL said no one ever, at least not now!
There is something fun about watching these boys I admit (but I still have no idea about names beside Rap Monster… I’m still ridiculed at thinking V was another name for Suga… don’t @ me haha).
This video was fun and the editing was trippy but interesting and actually goes with the song. The dancing is spot on as always. Considering that’s what has elevated them above other groups in people’s opinion is their choreography, it makes sense that this video would be no different.
The build-up to the chorus was so good! I think his name is Jin… don’t quote me on that. But the person who builds up the chorus has a beautiful voice is what I’m trying to say and the transition/drop into the chorus is great.
There you go, those are some of my thoughts on the Soompi Top 5. I hope you enjoyed reading and let me know what your thoughts are (or if you want me to go into more depth next time and maybe teach me some names hahaha).
Thanks for reading! I hope you are having a lovely day~
