I’m going to be perfectly honest and say I was kind of disappointed by this song. I was expecting something more I suppose, especially because I loved the past two comebacks so much. I do think this type of song works well with all of their voices and their concept, but I just wanted more.

Story:

Okay. I am going to come out right and say that I pretty much have no idea what is going on… I think that this all about being trapped in ‘4 walls’ and how even though you can be outside there is still pressure to be locked away (maybe from your mind? Or the struggles of everyday life?) and that maybe there is an element of struggling with lethargy and apathy for things you want to do… maybe?

So, I went straight to the lyrics (which you can see here). I was very wrong. I mean how did I miss “Love is 4 walls”? It was in English!! Anyhoo, so the song, from my interpretation of the lyrics is about how meeting somehow has completely changed their lives and they want to embrace the person. They want the person they love to show them everything about them and the more f(x) know them, the more they can’t escape the 4walls that is love.

In the video, they seem a bit lost and apathetic about this, but the lyrics make me feel as though they are happy about this, that they don’t mind being trapped in the ‘4walls of love’.

Also, were they meant to represent that the feeling is felt by all sort of people, and that’s why they would take off from where another was? Or were they all one person?

Also, what was so important about the cup? Victoria knew not to let Amber drop it again… is the cup the “heart”? So when Luna steps on it and bleeds it’s a metaphor about having a broken heart or how love can hurt? or is that a stupid interpretation? Haha ^^”

To be honest, my interpretation may be off kilter to everyone else’s… so what did you think this song was about?

Visuals:

This is F(x) and thankfully with SM their videos tend to have an artistic influence to them and they aren’t generally a generic box video.

Although, I did think some things were a little off. Mainly the fashion… well when they were in the forest… that was where my issues lay. I think the forest was the “fantasy” world etc. that is mentioned in the song, therefore I don’t have issue with the horse or the frozen in time members (even if I’m not sure why that happened, it looked pretty cool ^^”).

The thing I liked the most was the seamless editing of how the members replaced each other. I also liked the end where the Victoria turned into Luna in the bath, which I thought was cool and a little unexpected. I also really loves the scene around the latter moment, where Krystal was submerged in the water. The colours here were so pretty and Krystal looked stunning!

The fashion in the “apartment” was stylish and modern.

I did like how the screen changed, from the side black frames to the top and bottom ones, I thought that looked cool, but I kind of wish it happened more than once.

Vocals:

Krystal has a lot of vocals, which has been something we’ve seen become more and more apparent, but I don’t mind this. She is really improving a lot and her voice fits well with this song. Even so, the line distribution is alright, I don’t want to say this, but there is more opportunity for Victoria to have lines now that our Sulli baby has left the group which I am sort of liking. Not Sulli leaving, but the fact that they have included Victoria more than normal makes me happy.

I like that Amber has more harmonising moments, she has done this for many songs but her vocals aren’t so defined in those (in my opinion, I may have bad ears haha ^^”), but now they are more prominent. I feel SM learnt a lot from her debut solo album. And of course, her rap was great!

Luna, Luna, Luna, this sweet angel never fails to not make me fall in love with her every time she sings. I really need her to have a solo album! The integration with the other voices is very complimentary as well, and I think this song suited all of them rather well.

Below is a live performance of ‘Diamond’. I put this here, because I prefer this song to the title track which is 4walls and I thought this performance was very very good! Plus who doesn’t want a bit more F(x) in their lives? ♥♥
