I have done this before with songs, but wanted to see if someone had done one with Music Videos. I stumbled about one made by FFKpop and you can see the video here.
I’m having my booster jab tomorrow, which will probably hit me hard knowing my luck, so I’ve made this into a two parter to help myself~
It does say in the video to choose a ‘song’ and most of the comments seemed to be choosing based on what song they liked more (and biases), but I’m going into this post just looking at the music video’s! I won’t be talking about the song at all!
Round One
Weeekly “Holiday Party” vs. STAYC “์์๊ฒฝ STEREOTYPE”
I liked both video’s for different reasons. The bright colour scheme in Holiday Party is so fun, especially combined with the on screen effects. Meanwhile STEREOTYPE has a school concept and it’s the styling that really captures you. I prefer STAYC’s mv as the sets are more pleasing, as well as the camera work. It got a bit chaotic in Holiday Party which I tend not to like. I also enjoyed the choreography and how it was filmed in STEREOTYPE more than in Holiday Party.
Round Two
THE BOYZ “Drink It” vs. NCT DREAM “Dive Into You“
These two video’s are so different, but they both seem to feature members in love with each other!
Dive Into You is cute and has a pretty colour palette. Personally, I don’t find it that interesting… Whereas in Drink It, the members of THE BOYZ did not come to play in this vampire concept! They look amazing and the sets and camerawork builds up the concept really well. All the dance scenes are well integrated into the mv and everything about this is so cool!
Round Three
JAY B “B.T.W” vs. Kim Jong Kook x ATEEZ “Be My Lover“
I’m going to lie, I don’t really like either of these videos… However, I do prefer “B.T.W” and that’s mostly because of the camera work. I love the colours of Be My Lover, but the directing is too erratic for my taste and I don’t think the sets are used in a dynamic way, which is done more in Jay B’s mv.
Round Four
TAYO x ENHYPEN “HEY TAYO” vs. Second Aunt KimDaVi x ITZY “์ผ์๊นจ Break Ice”
This one doesn’t feel fair because ENHYPEN’S HEY TAYO isn’t really a song… it’s teach children… Meanwhile, Break Ice is a certified collab with Kim Shin Young with her trot persona. The video is also really fun, colourful and the members just radiate joy~ I will say the ENHYPEN boys look adorable in Hey Tayo!
Round Five
Taeyeon “Weekend” vs. Somi “Dumb Dumb“
I think that conceptually, Somi wins. I like the different references to the America school films such as Carrie and Heathers. However, Taeyeon win’s for me because I prefer her aesthetic in Weekend. The outfits and pink dreamland are cute and fit nicely with this era Taeyeon is in. I also prefer the dance scenes and choreography in Weekend.
Round Six
CIX “WAVE” vs. Golden Child “Ra Pam Pam“
The concept for these two mv’s both have sci-fi influences. The similarities end there! WAVE is bright, playful and uses special effects to make the watching experience great. My only qualm is that the video isn’t full screen. Meanwhile, Ra Pam Pam is set in an alien invasion situation with our member’s as the heroes trying to defeat them. The colour palette is consistent and works well with the sets and concept. Personally, I prefer CIX’s WAVE as it is really fun to watch!
Round Seven
A.C.E “Changer” vs. Stray Kids “Thunderous”
These two video’s are also not full screen MV’s… why?! I honestly think this makes watching them harder for me… All the energy is squashed into a smaller space.
Anyway, I think Changer is an okay video. I liked the dance scenes, but the transitions weren’t as smooth as I would like. Thunderous on the other hand is visually stunning! The outfits, sets/special effects and choreography are amazing. These are combined to make an amazing music video.
Round Eight
Key ft. Taeyeon “Hate That…” vs. BIBI ft. Tiger JK “WHY Y“
WHY Y is a fun mv and has some cool effects and a cute, playful atmosphere. However, putting it against Hate That… isn’t fair. Key is one of those artists who creates and is part of such beautiful media. I find Hate That… to be so captivating and aesthetically pleasing. It fits the styles of both Key and Taeyeon so well! โฅ
Round Nine
VERIVERY “TRIGGER” vs. LUCY “Irrelevant Answer“
These videos are so different… one is is a full blown dramatic video and the other is simply a band performance. And honestly, I don’t really like either.
TRIGGER is very erratic, which goes extremely well with the concept. And I do like the sets, outfits and choreography. But it is a lot to take in because it’s so fast paced. LUCY’s performance would be enjoyable (if a little boring if you take away the music element which is what I’m doing ๐ ), but I would have preferred it if not for the annoying editing and camerawork…
Round Ten
ONEUS “ONEUS THEATRE : Shut Up ๋ฐ๊ณ Crazy Hot!” vs. ATEEZ “Deja Vu“
There are aspects that I really like in Deja Vu. The outfits, some of the scenes between the action and ATEEZ have such a compelling aura about them. However, some of the effects and camerawork I find awkward and not very cool (can I say that with no cool bone in my body? ๐). Meanwhile, Shut Up ๋ฐ๊ณ Crazy Hot is a performance video, so only includes the choreography. It’s cool choreo and I think the huge open space and backup dancers makes it fun to watch. I do wish the background was a bit more interesting, but I’m not mad about it.
Do you agree with me, or are there ones you would choose the other music video? Let me know in the comments!
Thanks for reading!
I hope you’re having a lovely day and staying safe โฅ
I love Stereotype’s MV! So pretty.
