EXID are incredibly creative with their videos and for the most part incorporate sexual innuendo in a fun and chaotic way. I will say that some of the editing in EXID’s mv’s can be jarring and makes me a little uncomfortable. That’s definitely a me thing, and I can still appreciate the way that these video’s clearly have a distinct image that is needed to stand out in such a crowded industry.
These are in chronological order as it think it’s fun to see the features that I enjoy in their concepts and how their style has progressed over the years.
One side note is that I wish I like EXID’s debut music video, mostly because Lee Soo Hyuk is in it, but it screams a specific era of kpop concepts/mv’s that I can’t bring myself to include on this list… 😅
Every Night (매일밤)
Every Night has a special place in my heart as it’s the first song and video I saw of EXID’s. There are some really pretty and artistic shots. I do think certain dancing scenes are slightly awkward because of the camera work, but we love sexy scientists out for revenge here ♥
Up & Down is just iconic!
The chaotic and kooky editing, sets, colours and visuals really make this video stand out (it’s also a great fit for the song) and it makes sense that this was their breakout song. I think the great thing about Up & Down is that it’s not really a product of it’s time. I can see this being made today as it feels relevant and cool.
The concept and imagery is sexual, but this is a concept that EXID do very well.
In 2018, EXID released the Japanese version of UP&DOWN and I really like this mv too!
It’s less chaotic and obvious, but the sets are cute and so are the outfits. The long sleeve crop tops and black tight trousers are iconic, but that beach outfit in this version 😍
낮보다는 밤 (Night Rather Than Day)
I love this mv ♥ The sets are cool and really well lit to match the vibe of the song. There is a mellow aspect in some places, which seamlessly flows into more playful and sexy ones. I really like all the outfits as well.
Everything about this mv fits so well together to make the listening experience better.
알러뷰 (I LOVE YOU)
This mv has elements of Up&Down and Night Rather Than Day that I love. The visuals are stunning, with great uses of bright pops of colour. The outfits are cool and add to the 80’s vibe of the VHS tapes, and the Top of the Pops-esque dance scene. This is all mixed with a contemporary feel and adds to the creative EXID experience ♥
Bad Girl For You
The Japanese mv’s tend to have a softer editing style. There is a subtle sexiness to this video which is highlighted by the lighting and dance. This definitely feels more like a “performance version”, which is why I’m not so against the sets. I think some look good and others look out of place. I do really enjoy performance videos because I love watching people dance, so that’s why it’s on the list. And the outfits are all on point! ♥
