  • https://getinformed.carrd.co/ This is an incredible carrd with information and resources about many of the issues the world is going through right now!
  • I find Twitter an extremely useful tool in finding information about these injustices and ways to help. As well as Change.org for petitions!

This is the first post for team ITZY for my Kpop ReadAThon, and even though it’s the same concept as my Ateez one last week, I hope you still enjoy it. I think these ranking posts are fun to do, as it gives me more knowledge about the group and gets me past just knowing the title track!

7. 24HRS

Lyrics: Penomeco

ITZY for 24 hours
Hurry up, you’re wasting your time
As you know, I’m different
Everybody stand up get louder

twitter @yejissu

It makes sense as to why this is the last song. It’s catchy and emphasises their brand, but it’s kind of annoying. The lyrics are repetitive and the mix of cool and then super sweet vocals was odd. The only thing I really liked was Ryujin’s rapping.

6. I Don’t Wanna Dance

Lyrics: JQ + makeumine works

Don’t look for concerns, they are not here
Come follow me running ah come on
All the places that our feet land is our stage now
Let’s dance crazily, bounce

Zaty Farhani (Youtube)

The beat just seemed like a more layered Wannabe… Some of the rap portions were strong, as well as some vocals, but a lot of the parts felt flat. I liked the chorus, and it’s a song that’s easy to listen to, but it’s weak considering the songs that came before.

5. Nobody Like You

Lyrics: Yubin, Josh Record + Andrew Bullimore

It’s wicked but you’re so funny funny
Your voice is so dreamy dreamy
I’m hooked on you, really really
Oh baby I think I like you

Zaty Farhani (Youtube)

This song gives punk pop vibes and I love that! The problem is that the vocals get drowned out by the music a lot. And for some reason, despite the different vocal abilities on show, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I expected. Parts felt strained and it wasn’t as fun as it could have been.

(also Yubin helped write this and I saw Nobody in the title so of course my brain went “I want nobody, nobody but you” ♥ which is kind of the song I would have preferred to have been listening to)

4. Ting Ting Ting (ft. Oliver Heldens)

Lyrics: Penomeco, Lee Seuran + Kang Eunjung

Ting ting ting as you feel, ting ting ting at will
Even I don’t know where it would go, enjoy it ting ting

Zaty Farhani (Youtube)

Through the comment section of this song I learnt that Oliver Heldens is a DJ. And I think that is very evident with the music. It has that hyped anthem beat that flows throughout the song. The beats are good and it fits the cheer type vocals Itzy are doing. It’s cool song, but there are some things I don’t like, such as, the chanting “Lalalala” parts and I think that the beat lasts too long after the vocals end (and it’s an annoying repetitive one).

3. That’s a No No

Lyrics: Shim Eunji + KASS

You think that you know me?
You can think what you want
I respect you, but hey you
Don’t ever cross that line

Zaty Farhani (Youtube)

The beat right from the get go is vibrant and carries on in interesting ways throughout the song. It’s a strong track, with some good vocals. I would have minded some of the autotune if where it’s very evident weren’t the chiller parts of the song, as it gives a fun counterbalance to the parts surrounding it. I will say that because this song is so intense, it flies by!

2. You Make Me

Lyrics: Lee Seuran, earattack + Miranda Glory Inzunza

The unfamiliar attraction that I feel for the first time
This feeling that I somehow want to know about
Still, if you go ahead of me, then well
As everybody knows me
It will be a troublesome misunderstanding. You see?

ColorCodedLyrics

This was cool. Elements of the beat are screechy, but subdued and less annoying than I imagined it would be. While the beat is strong, the vocals stand out and we have both hip hop and pop, with some lovely high notes and harmonies. It’s one of the best songs on the album, the only problem is that it ends too quickly and so suddenly! I wish it was longer than just 3 minutes.

1. WANNABE

Lyrics: Galactika

I’m so bad bad, I’d rather be selfish
Hundred times better than
Pretending to be nice and getting hurt
I’m just on my way, don’t interfere, no no

ColorCodedLyrics

This is a cool title track. It’s upbeat and the EDM/House elements aren’t distracting from the vocals. The vocals are good and I like the different ranges – there is a definite mix of cute and girl crush which is fun. The hip hop parts are well interwoven and I enjoyed Ryujin’s raps.

Overall, this is an album with a solid and consistent sound. I will say listening to it through straight wouldn’t be the way I consumed this album. Each song is beat heavy and it can get repetitive and this way songs merge and it becomes difficult to tell where one ends and the other begins. There are signs of very good vocals, but it felt like the music hid quite a bit. And I’m always wary of an album that doesn’t have a ballad and not just because I love them. These types of songs allow you to really hear each member’s vocals without a lot of bells and whistles, so I wish we had one here.
