Apparently I don’t have a lot of thoughts for this one haha 😂

Secret Romance has been on my radar for a long time and I’ve never picked it up. Like every other drama out there haha ^^”

Secret Romance is an OCN romance from 2017.

In episode one we follow the exploits of Cha JinWook (SungHoon) and Lee YooMi (Song JiEun – aka my Queen of Secret! ♥) over a few days surrounding YooMi’s mother’s second marriage ceremony at a fancy resort that JinWook’s father owns.

JinWook is the usual kdrama second generation chaebol that only wants to have fun instead of working for his father. Oh and there’s some mother drama (obvs). In this episode it was somewhat amusing to see him slacking off his work and being told of several times haha

While YooMi is a young woman trying hard to find work and follow her dream of being a nutritionist. In this episode we don’t really learn much about what her dream is, just that she is a bad cook. We do learn that her mother (Nam KiAe) was an erotic actress (who literally gives no f*cks and is proud of her most famous film!) and this has caused a lot of insecurity and shame for YooMi. 

This episode was an hour long, but it felt like nothing and everything happened. The pacing of this episode was off and while I thought there were some cute and funny moments, I didn’t feel an instant connection to the leads which is what makes me want to continue.

The acting was okay, and I was happily surprised at JiEun’s acting because idol actors can definitely be touch and go. I don’t know how she could keep a straight face while dancing like a crazy lady 😂 And the intertwining of the webtoon illustrations was cute.

What I did LOVE was Jang WooJin (Park ShinWoon) who is JinWook’s secretary. I absolutely love the trope of the eccentric and no-nonsense secretary who still roots for his boss.

And I was definitely surprised by the amount of intimacy that we saw at the end. But then I feel like we’re going to get a huge time jump and I don’t like those…

I might continue with a few more episodes to see if I want to continue, but right now it’s not a priority. Let me know if you’ve seen this drama and how you felt about it in the comments! 🙂
