I started this challenge back in March of this year and I’m so happy that I’ve finally completed the entire board! Overall, I’ve completed 25 dramas – as well as adding a special and a mini-series – and there have been some amazing bl’s and some awful ones 😂
As I’ve completed all the squares I’m just going to show a clean board:

What the Duck (2018)
Trigger warnings: sexual assault, bullying, rape, drug abuse, mature content – I apologise if I’ve missed any, this drama is 20 episodes long and so much happens.
The setting for this drama is so interesting, especially as it stands out from all the university bl’s. We follow Pop who wishes to be a flight attendant but has to settle for working in the catering section of the airport, while he strives to pursue his dream.
I went into this drama knowing that so many people dislike it; and to say this drama is a total mess is an understatement. However, I can’t quite pinpoint why, but I wasn’t mad… I kind of enjoyed all the drama and there was never a boring moment! That’s not to say it’s good, because it’s not.
Pop and Oat had some sweet moments, and we saw Oat realise and apologise for his inappropriate behaviour (I didn’t appreciate Pop thinking Oat has raped him for 2 whole episodes!). However, the issue about the jobs and their relationship made no sense (side note: I was kind of interested to watch the second series but after finding out their ending, it’s a big “no thank you” from me). Pree and Rambo were a big weepy MESS! They needed better communication and in some ways both were kind of awful people. And the way they treated the only prominent female character was bad. Mo deserved so much better! This poor woman found out her boyfriend was basically cheating on her while she’d been suspended from her job after she got bullied and sexually assaulted! EXCUSE ME?!
There were so many elements that felt voyeuristic and made me very uncomfortable – so mostly all of Pent’s scenes.
Overall, there were just too many plot threads and not enough resolution. And I understand that they have a second series, but I get the impression a lot of loose ends still remain. I’d only recommend this drama if you wanted to watch a drama full of drama, miscommunication, sex and angst (so much angst!).
My Engineer (2020)
This drama was super fun and easy to digest. We’re back to the university setting, which is a sure fire way of knowing we’ll see great friendships and My Engineer was no different.
The main couple – Bohn and Duen were cute for the most part, but they didn’t really grow throughout the drama. Their progression was quick and they had bad communication which didn’t feel like it ever went away. I’d heard so much hype around Ram and King that I was somewhat disappointed. They were good and I really liked how their bond grew despite Ram not being the communicative type, but I felt the writers held back a lot because they’re making a second series. My favourite couple was Mek and Boss. I love the best friend’s to lovers story they had and they were the most enjoyable to watch. Mek’s dub was horrific and incredibly unnatural, but the glimpses of Ryan’s actual laugh were 10/10! I’m sad about what happened behind the scenes and probably won’t be continuing.
Overall, this was a bit of a letdown considering all the hype, but still a decent watch. We should have had more dog content, Thara and Frong, and Cupcake the lizard ♥
Dark Blue Kiss (2019)
This drama is incredibly well made – the production and the soundtrack all complimented each other and the plot it was portraying.
The only knowledge of this couple I have is the GMM cuts of PeteKao from Kiss Me Again and then their Our Skyy episode. So, I kind of knew that Pete has a temper, but is secretly a soft boi, while Kao is precious. Those elements were very clear in this drama, with more building of Kao’s character and the pressure’s he feels.
Pete becomes jealous of Kao’s relationship with Non – the little meddler that he’s forced to tutor – and a lot of the conflict stems from there. We have some sweet and cute moments between our leads, but the lies and lack of proper communication reaches a boiling point eventually. In my opinion I felt that their worries and insecurities within their relationship needed a little shit like Non to stir it up. I understood both boy’s points of views – Pete hates lying and Kao is afraid of the repercussions his sexuality will have for his family and I loved seeing them grow while working through why their actions were flawed. And the fact that they had supportive adults around them was great to see. Pete’s dad is a true MVP! ♥
The other couple – Sun and Mork – were great. I think some of their angst was a little too amplified and could have been better developed. However, I liked the progression of their relationship as they became more aware of their own flaws and tried to better themselves.
All 4 leads did a great job! ♥
Overall, this drama handles such important topics about relationships and the perceptions of LGBTQ+ and how that can effect the way you behave. And can we truly say this is a GMM drama though? We had no villainous female characters?! 😂
Definitely a new favourite ♥
This drama had so much hype surrounding it in February when it aired… and now that I’ve watched it I’m even more confused as to why. This isn’t a bad drama, it’s just not anything special.
Tine is being harassed by a senior who wants to date him, so pesters Sarawat – member of the music club – to fake date him. There were sweet moments, but it was kind of boring at times. It felt like not much actually happened and when it did, the drama was a bit dumb. I understand that Tine had fears and insecurities as his relationship with Sarawat was something so new to him, but he should have trusted Sarawat more. The inclusion of Pam was unnecessary and I found myself fast forwarding through some of the pointlessness.
The saving grace of the last 2 episodes was Man and Type. There was something so cute and innocent about their relationship. And I always love the dynamic of annoying and positive with the small bundle of ire as it’s so fun to watch the latter work out that they actually have feelings, and be exasperated about it.
The friendships were also good in this. Man as Sarawat’s bestie was so heartwarming and fun. He teased Sarawat, but did everything in his power to help his friend (Gunsmile was Gunsmile being weird in the background. Did his character have a name? sure, but they’re all the same brand of odd 😂). Tine’s friends were a bit different and I think they were part of the reason Tine felt so insecure. Only Fong really seemed to be understanding and considerate of his words and support.
I was expecting to find Mil more annoying than he was, because it seemed like everyone hated him… He was a little pushy and his actions weren’t the best, but he acknowledged that and he talked sense a lot of the time. I would have liked more Frank and Drake scenes, mostly because they thier characters were cute and had potential, but it wasn’t shown much.
Still 2gether is a 5 episode mini series that was released in August/September as a sequel “one year later”. It’s not on the bingo board because it hadn’t come out yet, but I wanted to just quickly mention it here anyway. This was actually so good! I enjoyed the relationships and the conflicts were better thought out and seeing our mains having actually develop after supposedly dating for a year was nice to see. Tine was such a cutie in this and Sarawat remains the best boi. Also, the secondary characters/relationships were great (apart from Green and Dim, they were slightly annoying). I want a whole series on Man and Type – I love them so much! ♥ Also it was great to finally see Frank and Drake’s chemistry being utilised!
3 Will Be Free (2019)
I don’t really hear many people talk about this drama, but more people should! I have seen it compared to the dynamic that Triple H (Korean co-ed group) have and I can see that. The drama is unlike anything I’ve previously seen from GMM. We follow 3 characters who are brought together after the accidental murder of a hitman. Neo, Miw and Shin are well written and equally well portrayed – although that doesn’t mean I’m overly fond of all of them. I found Neo somewhat annoying and tiring. I enjoyed that Miw embraced her boisterous nature and wouldn’t let anyone take advantage of her – Miw had some wonderful and feminist lines! And Shin, my sweet precious baby boy 😂 Shin is the innocent one of the three. He’s rich and gets thrown into all this by chance, but he’s loyal. There is a polyamorous relationship with our three mains, but I felt that there were several instances where he was put aside and not really listened to.
There is a whole host of characters and what I appreciated was that all the woman had substance. They were real people which is something we often don’t see in GMM series – maybe it’s just their bl’s? There were so many interesting and thought provoking interactions which was great to watch. This drama is pretty fast paced considering our mains are on the run, but there are also a lot of emotional and touching scenes.
Several characters I liked were PP – Toptap plays a dopey flirt really well ♥ And Mae + Ter. These two were seeking revenge for the hitman and their story is also really interesting and each finding out what they want out of this mission. I will say that these two deserved better, especially Mae! Jennie did a great job in her role and Gunsmile… I’ve only ever see this man act – basically like himself – in the same types of roles. They don’t tend to have any substance and are the comedic relief. In 3 Will Be Free, he plays a serious hitman who is quick to violence. I hope to see him get better roles!
Overall, this drama is excellently filmed. The cinematography, colouring, scenery, wardrobe and soundtrack make a very compelling drama to watch.
