Books I will Never Read

  • https://getinformed.carrd.co/ This is an incredible carrd with information and resources about many of the issues the world is going through right now!
  • I find Twitter an extremely useful tool in finding information about these injustices and ways to help. As well as Change.org for petitions!

I saw this tag on Library of Cerys‘ channel and it looked rather fun. It’s always a good time when you talk about things you don’t like πŸ˜‚ And with my other content, especially K-pop, I try not to be negative. So, it’s only really about books I can moan (or if a drama disappoints me haha).

This tag was originally created by Nicole & Her Books and she thinks that talking about books we don’t want to read shouldn’t be controversial and I completely agree!

The Questions

1. A popular book EVERYONE loves that you have no interest in reading?

There’s a lot, but the one that comes to mind is The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo; Taylor Jenkins Reid. I read Daisy Jones & The Six by the same author because of the hype and I gave it 3⭐, which looking back was generous and only because of the audiobook keeping me engaged. Famous people stories don’t interest me.

2. A classic book (or author) you don’t have an interest in reading?

Dickens. If I want to experience Dickensian London I’ll watch a BBC adaptation rather than hating myself and picking up one of his books. I tried to read one, and I nearly died of boredom. I got about 3 pages in and he was describing the same thing… Nope.

3a. An author whose books you have no interest in reading? + 3b. A problematic author whose books you have no interest in reading?

These two questions can be combined and I have two answers but they fit both questions. The first is Rainbow Rowell. I’ve read 2 of her books and while I enjoyed them, she’s not that great and I wouldn’t touch Eleanor & Park with a bargepole.

The second is Stephen King. I see a lot of booktubers have his books and I have zero interest. I’ve heard that most of his books are sexist and racist, so I don’t understand why you would want to read them… Also, they’re horror and I’m a wimp ✌

4. An author you have read a couple of books from & have decided their books are not for you?

I love the tv series Bones. However, when I read the first book Deja Dead, I realised the programme was very loosely based on Kathy Reichs’ books. Temperance was an idiot and how she survived to the end of that book I don’t know! I also read her YA collaboration with her son – Virals – and that was a big no from me.

I’ll just stick to re-watching Bones rather than diving into any of her books again.

5. A genre you have no interest in OR a genre you tried to get into & couldn’t?

I’m not really sure if this is the right way to answer the question, but I think classic sci-fi or really sci-fi-ey books – I’m good with Star Trek: the Next Generation, Voyager, Star Gate is the best! – but I can’t seem to get into that genre in book form.

I read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (all 5 books) by Douglas Adams and I – for the most part – did not have a great time… Aliens, science and space are just not really up my alley.

6. A book you have bought but will never read? (this can be a book you have unhauled/returned to the library unread)

So, I’m a person who tends to buy a series before I’ve read book 1 and yes this isn’t a good trait and I need to stop that! This means I have several books that I will never read. The one that comes to mind immediately is the Morganville Vampires series; Rachel Caine. I’ve read the first 3 books and I have about 10 more shoved in a cupboard somewhere because the main characters make me want to commit murder πŸ˜‚

7. A series you have no interest in reading OR a series you started & have dnf’d?

The above answer could work for this, but I have several others. I have the Shatter Me Trilogy; Tahereh Mafi and I’ve read and enjoyed them well enough. However, I’ve heard a lot of bad things about the next trilogy and honestly I thought Ignite Me ended in a place where I didn’t need more. And I still think that way.

8. A new release you have no interest in reading?

I’m someone who never knows what’s coming out… but, I will say that I was looking forward to Lethal White… but seeing as J.K. Rowling decided to make it known to everyone that she’s a shitty person, my interest has gone down the drain.

Are there any books you will never read? Let me know in the comments!

Thanks for reading! I hope you’re having a lovely day and staying safe β™₯
