Debut vs. Now || TWICE โ™ฅ

๋‚  ooh ahh ooh ahh ํ•˜๊ฒŒ ๋งŒ๋“ค์–ด์ค˜

As always, I would like to start this post with some resources about some of the injustices this world is currently facing:

  • https://moreblminfo.carrd.co/
  • https://getinformed.carrd.co/ This is an incredible carrd with information and resources about many of the issues the world is going through right now!
  • I find Twitter an extremely useful tool in finding information about these injustices and ways to help. As well as Change.org for petitions!

I’m currently doing my third round of the Kpop ReadAThon (Twice TBR here โ™ฅ) and I like to do ‘Debut vs. Now’ as an introduction into the group I’m on the Team of. Especially, as I’m not that familiar with Twice’s or the group in general.

Twice is a 9 member group that were formed by JYP on the programme Sixteen. They debuted October 20th 2015 with their 1st mini album ‘The Story Begins’.

(from left to right) Top: Momo, Nayeon + Mina || Middle: Dahyun, Chaeyoung, Jihyo + Tzuyu || Bottom: Sana + Jeongyeon

  • Jihyo: Leader, Main Vocalist || 01.02.1997
  • Nayeon: Lead Vocalist, Lead Dancer, Centre || 22.09.1995
  • Jeongyeon: Lead Vocalist || 01.11.1996
  • Momo: Main Dancer, Sub Vocalist, Sub Rapper || 09.11.1996

Twice have been very successful and they’re known for a cute, girlish style. They shot to popularity with Cheer Up, and became the “Nation’s Girl Group” in 2017 โ™ฅ

Like OOH AHH

“Title track ‘Like OOH-AHH’ which was made by ๋ธ”๋ž™์•„์ด๋“œํ•„์Šน (Black Eyed Pilseung) is a “Color Pop’ dance song, which is mixed with various genres including HIP HOP, R&B, even Rock.”

Like OOH-AHH is the title track for Twice’s debut 1st mini album ‘The Story Begins’.

To start with I wasn’t a fan of this song! I tend to not be so into the super cutesy sounding girl groups. However, through hearing it on variety a lot, as well as listening to it for my blog and when I can’t be bothered to skip it on YouTube, I’ve come to actually like it.

It’s catchy, a lot of fun to sing and dance to, and the raps ๐Ÿ‘Œ โ™ฅ Women rappers are superior!

Dahyun and Chaeyoung’s rap segment was great we’ve established that. And I really liked Nayeon and Mina’s vocals. The break near the end where they all sing together is my favourite part of the song!

For a debut, most of the vocals are really good – although the line distribution isn’t the best – hopefully, that’s gotten better with time. The song is well made, which makes sense considering JYP consistently makes good music. And the Music video is odd and doesn’t really go with the song, but it’s October themed and I’m here for it ๐Ÿ˜‚

More & More

More & More “sings the emotion of craving the lover when the excitement and sweetness of love matures. The tropical house rhythm of it doubles the trendiness of this song. The refrain of the song has the sound of the instrument, which will help audiences focus on the splendid performance.”

More & More is the title track of their latest comeback album of the same name. It is their 9th mini album and was released 01.06.2020.

I don’t hate it, but I don’t like it either…

More & More is a song that is kind of fun to listen to – it has a rather upbeat and interesting “tropical house” rhythm – but it does get a bit annoying. And I feel like with this beat, they made some of the voices sound similar – Momo’s vocals and some of Nayeon’s sounded very robotic and auto-tuned. I will say the line distribution seemed so much better than Like OOH AHH.

I really liked Jeongyeon’s vocals, who was pretty much non existent in the debut song. Jihyo was good, and I also liked Tzuyu’s voice. Even though Dahyun’s rap seemed like an afterthought at the end, it was the best part of the song!

The MV is a LOT, so be prepared. The colours, the outfits, the landscape and the transitions are somewhat psychedelic and a lot to take in at once. BUT, there are bunnies so it’s worth it!

Overall, I prefer Like OOH AHH. That’s pretty obvious. I do like how the lines are better distributed in the latest title track and it’s clear a lot of members have gotten better which is is always great to see โ™ฅ

Apparently, Twice are having another comeback before the year ends, so I’m interested to see what they have planned. I’m more interested in Twice’s concepts than their actual songs most, if not all, of the time.

Which song do you prefer? Are you a ONCE? What are your thoughts on Twice’s evolution?

Thanks for reading! I hope you’re having a lovely day and staying safe โ™ฅ
