EXO || Kpop ReadAThon TBR ♥

엑소 || SM엔터테인먼트

As always, I would like to start this post with several carrds that contain very important information about the injustices happening right now and resources to help.

  • https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/ has a lot of information and resources and is updated regularly! It also has info on Palestine, the Junk Terror Bill, Hong Kong and the Yemen Crisis .
  • https://abolish-ice.carrd.co/ – In case anyone forgot there are still children and adults in cages in America. These people are being treated worse than animals and it needs to stop.
  • You can also go to Change.org, most countries have their own petition site linked to their government or send emails and letters to your representatives. As someone from the UK, I know for a fact that your local MP’s have their email information readily available.

The Kpop ReadAThon was created by Noura on the WP blog – theperksofbeingnourablog – and her Twitter is @NunuKz (which is where there is a thread all about the prompts etc.)

As I explained in my Kpop ReadAThon || TBR + Plans ♥ post I’m going to work through every group, especially as the first one with Monsta X went super well! You can check out my wrap up here if you would like to see that~

EXO is one of the groups that first got me into Kpop. I saw a friend at school watching the MAMA music video and got intrigued! This was in 2012 when they debuted and I was 17… so I’ve been listening to kpop for 8 years 😮

My bias sometime changes, but it’s generally between Kyungsoo (I love a little grump) and Chanyeol (I love a giant baby)

Like Monsta X, this team has 6 prompts and they are inspire by the OBSESSION album, EXO’s 6th full album.

PROMPTS

OBSESSION: GENRE YOU LOVE

Myths & Mortals; Charlie N. Holmberg

Myths & Mortals is the second book in the Numina trilogy. I read the first – Smoke & Summons – for the Monsta X team. I really enjoyed the premise of a girl trying to escape a master who wants to use her body as a vessel for an extremely evil and violent demon.

Therefore, I’m super excited to continue with this story and also see how Sandis and Rone’s relationship can be repaired after what happened at the end of the first book!

NON-STOP: READ A BOOK IN ONE SITTING

The Ballad of Black Tom; Victor LaVelle

People move to New York looking for magic and nothing will convince them it isn’t there.

Charles Thomas Tester hustles to put food on the table, keep the roof over his father’s head, from Harlem to Flushing Meadows to Red Hook. He knows what magic a suit can cast, the invisibility a guitar case can provide, and the curse written on his skin that attracts the eye of wealthy white folks and their cops. But when he delivers an occult tome to a reclusive sorceress in the heart of Queens, Tom opens a door to a deeper realm of magic, and earns the attention of things best left sleeping.

A storm that might swallow the world is building in Brooklyn. Will Black Tom live to see it break?

Goodreads

When I read the synopsis of this book I immediately wanted it in my possession! I don’t tend to look at page counts of books so I was surprised when this tiny little thing arrived in the post 😂 As The Ballad of Black Tom stands at just under 150 pages it will be easy to read in one sitting.

DAY AFTER DAY: READ A CHAPTER OF A BOOK EACH DAY

A Thousand Beginnings and Endings; Eds. Ellen Oh & Elsie Chapman

Star-crossed lovers, meddling immortals, feigned identities, battles of wits, and dire warnings. These are the stuff of fairy tale, myth, and folklore that have drawn us in for centuries.

Fifteen bestselling and acclaimed authors reimagine the folklore and mythology of East and South Asia in short stories that are by turns enchanting, heartbreaking, romantic, and passionate.

Goodreads

I’m glad that I have this anthology because the idea of reading 1 chapter a day of a novel somewhat stressful because I’ll probably forget what is happening easier than normal 😂 Reading a short story every day which is contained within itself is far more appealing to me for this challenge!

GROOVE: READ ANY BOOK/GENRE

The Lady Rogue; Jenn Bennett

Armed with her father’s travel journal, the reluctant duo learns that her father had been digging up information on a legendary and magical ring that once belonged to Vlad the Impaler—more widely known as Dracula—and that it just might be the key to finding him.

Journeying into Romania, Theodora and Huck embark on a captivating adventure through Gothic villages and dark castles in the misty Carpathian Mountains to recover the notorious ring. But they aren’t the only ones who are searching for it. A secretive and dangerous occult society with a powerful link to Vlad the Impaler himself is hunting for it, too. And they will go to any lengths—including murder—to possess it.

Goodreads

I started this book in April and I was enjoying it, but then I fell into a slump. Hopefully, this readathon will help me finish it! I’m about halfway through 203/370 so it shouldn’t be too difficult to get this done relatively quickly~

TROUBLE: CHOOSE SOME BOOKS AND HAVE A FRIEND PICK THE ONE YOU READ

Spin the Dawn; Elizabeth Lim

Project Runway meets Mulan in this sweeping YA fantasy about a young girl who poses as a boy to compete for the role of imperial tailor and embarks on an impossible journey to sew three magic dresses, from the sun, the moon, and the stars.

Maia Tamarin dreams of becoming the greatest tailor in the land, but as a girl, the best she can hope for is to marry well. When a royal messenger summons her ailing father, once a tailor of renown, to court, Maia poses as a boy and takes his place. She knows her life is forfeit if her secret is discovered, but she’ll take that risk to achieve her dream and save her family from ruin. There’s just one catch: Maia is one of twelve tailors vying for the job.

Goodreads

So, this was a prompt that I kind of changed a little. I picked 4 books (The Obelisk Gate; The Dark Days Pact; Serpent & Dove and the above) and got my dad to pick one of them. He’s like a friend.. I guess… 😂

His was of choosing was incredibly scientific and took about 5 seconds. He just closed his eyes, waved his hand about and touched whatever book was closest. Genius 😂

JEKYLL: READ A CLASSIC

The Comedy of Errors; Shakespeare

Two sets of twins are separated at birth by a storm at sea: a pair of masters (both named Antipholus) and a pair of servants (both named Dromio). Years later, the Antipholus-and-Dromio pair raised in Syracuse happen to visit Ephesus, where the respective twins reside—providing the basis for ongoing incidents of mistaken identity, within a lively plot of quarrels, arrests, and a grand courtroom denouement.

Based on a pair of comic dramas from ancient Rome, The Comedy of Errors presents a spectacle of pure farce in the spirit of utmost fun and—as the title suggests—hilarious confusion. One of Shakespeare’s earliest dramatic efforts, the play abounds in his trademark conceits, puns, and other forms of fanciful wordplay.

Goodreads

The only classics that I really have are a Shakespeare collection, so I picked the shortest play which is The comedy of Errors and thankfully it wasn’t a historical 😂

I’m looking forward to getting to a lot of these books! What are your thoughts on them? Did you take part in the Kpop ReadAThon?

Thanks for reading! I hope you are having a lovely day and staying safe ♥
