I wish I could translate my bookish ideas in words!
This is an original tag by Lianne over at Literary Diversions โฅ
This is a super fun and creative tag which I immediately wanted to do myself! The results were something… ๐
QUESTIONS:
1. Genre!
Recommend a book that reflects your ideal novel’s genre and mood.
My most read genre is urban fantasy and high fantasy. This ties in a lot with my ideal genre of my own book. I tend to gravitate towards telling myself high fantasy stories at bedtime or when I’m daydreaming.
I love magic, kingdoms and morally grey characters.
2. Main character!
If you could pull a main character from any book on your shelves to read another novel about โ who would it be?
This is going to come as no surprise to anyone who knows me, but Elizabeth Bennett from Pride & Prejudice; Jane Austen. I love her feisty, stubborn, sarcastic and loyal character and would love to just read about her and Darcy being super domestic.
I read Death Comes to Pemberley; P.D. James and it was terrible! Therefore, I would need to resurrect the queen Jane Austen herself โฅ
Plus to bring this round to my novel, I feel like Lizzie would do well against the kind of love interest I like, considering how Mr Darcy is my main love haha โฅ
3. Supporting character!
Who would be your main character’s sidekick?
I don’t really know who would work well with Lizzie… I feel like she gets on a lot better with gentler people (but those who still have a strong moral compass). Potentially, Vasilisa from Vampire Academy?
And having a vampire queen as a supporting character to help you would be great in a high fantasy~
4. Trope!
What trope can you not get enough of? Recommend a couple of books you love that have used this trope.
Enemies to Lovers! ooh and of course “mean/distant male is truly a soft cinnamon roll that needs protecting”. I am not ashamed!
For enemies to lovers, Pride and Prejudice is obvs up there. The main couple in The Black Magician trilogy; Trudi Canavan is great! The Wrath & The Dawn; Renรฉe Ahdieh is good too!!
I love that the male interests fit my other trope favourite too haha ๐ More that come to mind are Lorcan from the Vampirates series; Justin Somper. Rhysand and Azriel from ACOTAR; Sarah J. Maas.
Feel free to recommend me some in the comments! โฅ
5. Plot twist!
Which book has your favourite plot twist?
The Illuminae Chronicles by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff has so many plot twist and turns that keeps you on your toes throughout. The twists that are concerned with AIDAN’s behaviour were always the ones that hit me the hardest.
Of course, it would be a bit difficult to have a space ship AI in a high fantasy novel…
6. Relationships?
What kind of relationship is important in your book? Show us your favourite bookish example of this kind of relationship!
Romantic all the way! I’m a sucker for romance โฅ
I like relationships that start off somewhat antagonistic – who doesn’t love some angst? – and then grows into a strong love where both parties respect each other so much!
I know people hate on ACOTAR a lot, but I really enjoy it and think that Feyre and Rhys fit this. Oh and Derek and Chloe from the Darkest Powers trilogy; Kelley Armstrong โฅ
7. Villain?
Which villain would you steal for your book?
Honestly, villains don’t often stand out for me.
However, Ravel will forever stand out. He can choke! Derek Landy set up such a wonderful character who I loved and then tore my heart out with the betrayal! I don’t really like in your face villains, but morally grey ones and those who are unexpected are great!
8. Ending?
Which kind of ending do you like the best โ all wrapped up, open ended, or something else? Give us an example of your favourite ending!
I prefer endings where all the plot points are wrapped up and happy endings are my most preferred. I love knowing the story ends with all my characters being happy.
So examples are: Twilight, Lockwood & Co., Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, The Remnant Chronicles.
But then there are the ones that are so sad and heartbreaking but also bittersweet and incredibly memorable: i.e. The Miniaturist, The Book Thief and A Monster Calls.
Personally, I am more inclined to write a story with a happy ending haha ๐
Thanks for reading! I hope you’re having a lovely day~
Congratulations!!!!
