May 1st: Bookish Things I’ve Changed My Mind About

— This can cover any bookish topic you want: tropes, characters, TBRs, genres, anything!

This took me a lot longer to compile than I thought it would. Apparently, I’m boringly consistent!

5. I Don’t Like Hardbacks

By this I mean I don’t like to read hardbacks. I really enjoy looking at pretty Hardcovers and the penguin classics are so beautiful! But they aren’t fun to read logistically haha

4. Books Don’t Have to Be Perfect

For the past couple of years I have been buying most of my books second hand, which means they are sometimes discoloured, ripped and/or the spines are cracked and even wonky haha

And that is wonderful! They have been read, loved, hated and it doesn’t matter what the outside looks like as long as you can read all the words inside!

3. Writing in Books

This is one that took me a while, but now I really like the idea! I’ve seen some beautiful annotations, and I’m so jealous of people’s creativity. I want to work on my annotations, but my handwriting sucks haha

But did you know I have an A-level in Art? haha :p

Oh and this also encompasses drawing, colouring (this painting the edges of books trend is wonderful! ♥) and even dog-earing…

Okay that one still makes me uncomfortable and I will never do it! But, if people want to dog-ear pages it’s their book! Let them live!

2. Negative Reviews Are Hilarious 😂

In the last year I’ve found that I read more negative reviews than positive ones! And I read ones that correspond with the book I’m currently reading. These don’t even put me off the books haha

Negative reviewers can be so funny!

1. Let Characters Be Dumb!

I’ve always been rather judgy when it comes to characters being dumb, or when they make decisions that aren’t right!

However, I’ve gotten a lot more chill about characters. I prefer to just go with the flow and actually put myself in their shoes (and often age range) rather than getting stressed over stupidity. I have enough real life stress, I don’t need fictional stress either!
