“The question isn’t who’s going to let me; it’s who’s going to stop me.”
Ayn Rand
Today’s Goodreads Prompt:
Favorite leading ladies who aren’t distracted from getting shit done by their love interest (they can still have a romance subplot – this is going to be subjective based on what you think would be ~too much~).
5. Valkyrie Cain
Skulduggery Pleasant Series – Derek Landy
Valkyrie has a lot going on in her life with saving the world all the time, but there have been several love interests. However, Valkyrie would sooner kick them in the backside if they got in her way haha~
That isn’t to say that Valkyrie wouldn’t do anything for those she loves. Especially Skulduggery! (I’m an unabashed Valkyrie/Skulduggery shipper. Don’t @ me, I know it’s weird haha ^^”)
4. Sydney Sage
Bloodlines Series – Richelle Mead
Sydney takes her job as an Alchemist seriously, and later on she takes her duties to protect Jill and the others.
Adrian is very prominent in this series, but Sydney works well on balancing their relationship. There is a lot that Sydney has to contend with – school, witches and moroi – and because she has spent so much of her life being independent, she can easily get things done without being distracted. Even though it can be hard sometimes… I mean, Adrian Ivashkov am I right? ♥.♥
3. Ósa
A Shiver of Snow and Sky – Lisa Leuddecke
Ósa doesn’t spend much of the book with her love interest. The chemistry is evident from the beginning, but that doesn’t stop Ósa doing what she needs to try and save her village.
What I love most about this couple is that both strive to protect their village and each must undergo dangerous situations, but they don’t try and stop/baby each other.
2. Lady Jane Grey
My Lady Jane – Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton & Jodi Meadows
Jane is wonderful. She is feisty and surrounded by far too many incompetent men. As this is based – loosely, so loosely- on history, there are a lot of plots and schemes that Jane has to navigate. She has a love interest, and they work together well, however, Jane doesn’t let him get in the way with what needs to be done.
Also, I love that Jane has a Rapunzel moment and smacks someone with a frying pan! haha 😂
1. Kady Grant
Illuminae – Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
Kady is smart and versatile throughout this book. During most of the book, the two love interests are apart from each other. They interact through chat, but events don’t stop Kady from getting what needs to be done. And she gets all the shit done!
The sequel protagonist, Hanna, is also wonderful in this respect. The ladies of this series don’t let their love interest get in the way!
I found it rather hard to compile this list, what books would you recommend with independent leading ladies?
Thanks for reading! I hope you are having a lovely day~
