Wednesday has arrived and with it another MV/Song Review!
Number 6 on Soompi’s list is Verbal Jint! Now, this video was so hard to find… It may just be me showing how bad I am with technology, but I had to revert using a Korean keyboard on my phone to type in Verbal Jint in hangul… ^^”
Anyway, this is a great video and I loved the message, the production and just everything! Which makes me super excited to go further up Soompi’s list ♥
Story:
Verbal Jint lives with a young woman who “deserves better’. Her boyfriend is not really respectful towards her and even cheats on her, in her own home/bed. Verbal Jint know and believes the guy is not good enough for her. He thinks that the woman should leave and find a better life and love.
Looking at the lyrics (which you can see here) this is pretty much what the song is about. The song is sung directly to the woman, highlighting her good qualities, asking her questions and saying that she deserves better and he wants to help her find better.
Also, I would like to point out that I thought that Verbal Jint wasn’t “human” for most of the video… however, I thought he was a cat… ^^” but then I realised that cats don’t play fetch. And that was also when the who doggy reflection in the mirror thing occurred… I’m so smart haha ^^”
Visuals:
I really enjoyed the lovely toned down , rather blue/grey feel to the colours and the MV (most of it) as a whole. The bedroom was the focal set of the MV and I liked the layout, it worked really well.
Talking of the ‘blue/grey’ atmosphere, I liked that it changed depending on the mood of the woman, which I thought was wonderful. When she is playing with Verbal Jint (this was a weird sentence to write out…) and smiling, the scene is fresher and the lighting is more open and bright, as opposed to when she is with the boyfriend or her mood is low. This is even more noticeable at the end when she leaves and her outfit is so cute and the outside world looks radiant and welcoming!
For the singers role, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a singer interact in this kind of way where the message is powerful and the mood is deeper. I am reminded (only because I saw this artist’s MV first) of Zion T (SPOILER WARNING) and how he is the phone in his ‘Eat’ MV. I think these kinds of roles are so clever and really shows a more integrated feel between singer and song (for me anyway).
Oh and where do I get a dog that helps me pack?! My packing is terrible, I need all the help I can get. Also, that dog was so cute!! ♥♥♥
Vocals:
I’ve only really recently found Verbal Jint and I have to say, I’m kind of in love. His voice is so laid back and there is a deepness to it that has a lot of feeling… does anyone know what I’m talking about?… haha ^^”
Anyway, even when Verbal Jint is rapping faster than usual, I still feel comfortable and it doesn’t really change (by change I mean fragment) the overall feel of the song which I really enjoy.
For Sanchez, those high notes though! wow!
Sanchez has a definite flow to his voice which is wonderful to listen to and the tone and sound of his voice fits very well with Verbal Jint’s voice.
