匿名の恋人たち

Romantics Anonymous is a new romance drama from Netflix. It is based on the French-Belgian film of the same name ‘Les Émotifs anonymes’.

Lee Ha Na (Han Hyo Joo) is a woman afraid of looking people in the eye which limits her relationships, but her Scopophobia doesn’t hinder how she is able to speak about her feelings and to bring out emotion through her chocolate.

When her beloved Le Saveur changes hands and Fujiwara Sosuke (Oguri Shun) disrupts her persona of being the ‘Anonymous Chocolatier’ she is forced to come out of her shell more as an employee in the chocolate café. Meanwhile, Sosuke is battling with his own trauma that has developed into OCD and germaphobia, but like Ha Na, there’s more than meets the eye.

The pair discover quickly, through a mishap, that they are each other’s safe space. Ha Na is integral to helping the success of Le Saveur and bridging the gap between Sosuke and others, while Sosuke brings Ha Na out into the world and supports her dreams of confessing to the person she likes.

In tandem to this couple, we see Irene (Nakamura Yuri) and Hiro (Akanishi Jin) skirt around their feelings for each other. Irene is a renowned psychologist who helps both her friend – Sosuke – and Ha Na work through their trauma. She finds out that she is far more involved in her patients’ business than she should be. Hiro is a jazz musician and childhood friend of Sosuke. He is also the person that Ha Na has a crush on, which makes things even more complicated! I really do wish we could have seen more of Irene and Hiro’s growth in getting to know each other better and forming a stronger bond.

Each episode is based around one chocolate from Le Saveur’s ‘Rainbow Palette’. This allowed for very easy viewing and made it extremely bingeable. I’ve been in a drama slump for forever, it feels like, and I watched this all in one sitting! While there are hard topics in this drama, especially trauma based ones and why our characters are suffering, not much is delved into in great detail. Despite there being shocking and sad moments, there is still a sense of comfort throughout.

The plot itself is quite weak and predictable, but the characters were cute and charming. Han Hyo Joo was the shining star of this drama and I really enjoyed how Ha Na interacted with everyone. I enjoyed that even though there could have been a lot of resentment built between female characters, this was never the case. Both Irene and Le Saveur’s chief chocolatier Kawamura Motomi (Ito Ayumi) lift each other up rather than turning mean due to jealousy.

Along with the plot being predictable, the tension felt forced near the end and was easily resolved and not in an overly satisfying way. This drama definitely could have been longer, but potentially this could have added more tension than was clearly intended.

As the drama is based around the making of chocolates, the sequences included each episode were smooth and enjoyable to watch. It was interesting learning about different techniques and the wholesomeness of how important chocolate is to our happiness. The rest of the cinematography was good, but nothing special. The ost, on the other hand, was perfect for this drama!

Again, this drama was made so cute and watchable due to our main couples chemistry. I do wish we got to see more of them being together, but I’m still happy with what we got. I also love the trope of ‘he fell first’ and the looks Sosuke was giving Ha Na melted my heart!

Overall, I’m so glad that the TikTok algorithm was forcing this onto me. It’s been tough at work for basically months now and this was such a heartwarming and fun watch that I needed. And even though I have criticism, it was the perfect time to watch this and it shows in my rating! I’m being super subjective on this one.

Side note: the cameos at the end had me questioning my life and I know it wasn’t that deep, but my mouth was agape. I know it’s probably not something we will see, but I would be seated.

One response to “Romantics Anonymous (2025) Review 🍫”

  1. I found it was a lovely drama from the start to the finish.

I liked how each episodes theme was based around one of the signature chocolates.

As for the making of the chocolates and the chocolate work – divine.

The other aspect I truly enjoyed was how the chocolatiers embraced the secret chocolatier. A mature perspective for once on embracing others – selfless.

    It was 4.75 ⭐️for me.
