H:FC – Film Club Update – Last Quarter Plans 🍂❄️

OCT || NOV || DEC

On the 20th of June, I started my single member film club: Hayleigh’s Film Club Announcement!

It’s now been several months and the last couple of which have seen me fall off entirely… My work really amps up at this time of year and gets very stressful. We’re also going through a restructure, which has additional stress potential as it is finally (after many delays) happening this month for my department.

Due to this, I’m going to be sharing my Film Club plans for the last quarter of 2025. But first, to recap how it’s been going so far.

PHASE ONE

I ended up watching 21 films for the film club and it was definitely a mixed bunch. 10 were re-watches and 11 were new to me. At one point I was really just watching films that I knew would bring me comfort and wouldn’t require much brain power.

My favourite of the ‘new to me’ films was Breakfast in Pluto (2005). Kitten’s story was heartbreaking, but her endurance and whimsy, mixed with the style of the film, gave me such a warm feeling. There was a lot of hope in this and I would highly recommend it! This is also my first Cillian Murphy film and he was amazing!

Overall, my average rating was 3.5⭐. If it was just for the ‘new to me’ films, the rating drops quite a lot to 2.6⭐.

PHASE TWO

For this next quarter, I have scaled down to 2 films per week – Tuesday & Sunday – and then I will be doing a review post every fortnight. I have taken out the ‘rewatch’ portion, but there will be some rewatches sprinkled in.

This means that there will be 8 films for each month in October, November and December.

OCTOBER

The October picks have a mostly ‘spoopy’/supernatural element to them. I’m not a fan of Halloween or horror, so it’s low on scares. Several picks are also to celebrate Black voices as it’s Black History Month currently in the UK. I’m so excited for Rye Lane, it looks so cute!

NOVEMBER

November, for me, has peak noir/crime vibes. Some of these picks are comedies, with a crime element and some are full on mysteries. We also have Remembrance Sunday in November, so there are some war films here – I do plan to watch some others and some documentaries for a blog post.

There are so many in this selection that I’m excited for!

❄️❄️❄️

DECEMBER

For December, I evidently wanted a ‘blue’ cover aesthetic to match winter. Mirror Mirror may be the anomaly, but Snow White wears a blue dress. There’s a mix of romance, fairy tale and… depressing – I’m not really sure how else to categorise week 4. I will say I am mostly excited to re-watch Nanny McPhee as that is such a cosy winter film!

While compiling the picks and writing this blog post, I’m so excited to get back into actually participating in my challenge to watch films.

Let me know if any of the picks are your favourites, and which ones you’d recommend.

Thank you for reading!

I hope you’re having a lovely day and staying safe ♥
