🌳🏹💍🌳

I absolutely love TBR Games! They’re one of my favourite things to watch on YouTube.

I recently discovered Sylvia from Library Unbounded through her TBR Game ‘The Lord of the Reads’. It’s so fun and Sylvia has created such a beautiful game that she has made available for free! – in both digital and printable formats.

I really wanted to play for myself and I decided to use the game to pick my ‘Anticipated Reads’ TBR to complete by the end of the year.

Definitely check out Library Unbounded ♥

Again, this board game is stunning and the art for the Lord of the Rings character’s is so cute! I was hoping for Sam because I love him so much, but I was still happy to get Legolas because who doesn’t love that beautiful elf?!

ROLL ONE

The first roll was a big one which saw Legolas skip about a third of the board. We hit a ‘Series’ square which means I have to continue in a series.

For this prompt, I chose to continue on with ‘The Saint of Steel’ series by T. Kingfisher. I enjoyed Paladin’s Grace (4) earlier this year as it was cute and fun. I’m excited to learn more about the world and the temples in particular. Paladin’s Strength looks like it will expand the world much more and I love the idea of a nun out for revenge and on a rescue mission.

“He’s a paladin of a dead god, tracking a supernatural killer across a continent. She’s a nun from a secretive order, on the trail of the raiders who burned her convent and kidnapped her sisters.

When their paths cross at the point of a sword, Istvhan and Clara will be pitched headlong into each other’s quests, facing off against enemies both living and dead.”

ROLL TWO

After that huge jump, the game said “not so fast” and gave me a whopping 1.

Finding out what season books are set in is so much harder than people think! For this prompt – Read a book set in Winter – I’ve chosen a book that I recently started (but not far in) which is set around Christmas time: Mrs March by Virginia Feito.

I saw this book in a charity shop and I immediately wanted to pick it up! I enjoyed the writing of Fieto’s latest book, Victoria Psycho, but I felt that it needed a longer page count. While Mrs March isn’t much longer (about 80 pages), I already feel that we’re exploring Mrs March’s character to great depth. The only issue I’m having at the moment is that I’m relating to her a bit too much…🥲

“George March’s latest novel is a smash hit.

One casual remark robs Mrs. March not only of her beloved olive bread but of the belief that she knew everything about her husband—and herself—sending her on an increasingly paranoid journey, one that starts within the pages of a book but may very well uncover both a killer and the long-buried secrets of Mrs. March’s past.”

ROLL THREE

Another incredibly high number…

For roll three, we got one of my least favourite characters – Shelob, the giant spider.

The prompt was super easy though – Read a book told from first person POV – as a large majority of the books I own are first person pov. And I immediately knew what book I wanted to use for this as I’m so excited to continue with Robert Jackson Bennett’s ‘Shadow of the Leviathan’ series.

I read The Tainted Cup (4) last month and I really loved the writing and characters. The world is incredibly interesting with the biologically based technology, as well as the societal structure. I’m looking forward to delving more into the politics/Leviathan’s and learning more about Ana, and Kol’s abilities.

“An impossible crime has occurred. A Treasury officer has disappeared into thin air – abducted from his quarters in a building whose entrances and exits are all sealed.

The brilliant and mercurial investigator, Ana Dolabra, and her assistant Dinios Kol have been called in to crack the case.”

ROLL FOUR

I watched so many August TBR video’s to find people who were adding books that I own and am anticipating picking up before 2025 ends!

A creator I discovered through this was Alexa Raye and she created a new game using super cute mini books of her tbr that she made. While A Theory in Drowning wasn’t picked this way, the book was still part of Alexa’s August tbr.

I really enjoy Ava Reid’s writing and I had a lot of fun with A Study in Drowning (4.5) and I’m excited to pick up the sequel, which recently came out – 05.08.2025.

“All stories come to an end.

As the war between Llyr and Argant explodes, Effy and Preston find themselves caught in the crossfire: Effy losing her dreams and Preston losing himself in his.

Are dreams ever truly just dreams?”

ROLL FIVE

We’re picking up the pace with this role and it’s another one that I found a lot harder than I thought I would! Thankfully, one of my anticipated 5⭐ predictions – Dark Rise – has a prologue.

I loved C.S Pacat’s Captive Prince Trilogy and I know that they can write really interesting and well-developed characters. I believe this is an anti-hero story, and that sounds fascinating and something I’ve not really read before (at least that I can think of).

Sixteen-year-old dock boy Will is on the run, pursued by the men who killed his mother… Will is thrust into a world of magic, where he starts training for a vital role in the oncoming battle against the Dark.

As London is threatened and old enmities are awakened, Will must stand with the last heroes of the Light to prevent the fate that destroyed their world from returning to destroy his own.

ROLL SIX

We’re journeying on nicely with a four. For this prompt – Read a book on your TBR with the longest title – I went with ‘The Ornithologist’s Field Guide to Love’ by India Holton. This author loves a long title!

I should have already read this by now because I adored Holton’s ‘Dangerous Damsel’s’ trilogy, however, my brain decided to save it… but I need to reject that thinking and just read it! Holton’s books are full of such fun and charm, so I’m excited to meet our protagonist’s and watch them bicker their way into love~

“Rival ornithologists hunt through Europe for dangerous magical birds in this historical fantasy romance.

Professor Beth Pickering is on the verge of finally capturing the rare Deathwhistler bird when Professor Devon Lockley swoops in, capturing both her bird and her eye.”

ROLL SEVEN

I really thought this would have been the last roll, but it was not to be.

This last card prompt was – Start a new series – and this isn’t something I should be doing, but I’m not mad. I have wanted to pick up The Jasad Heir by Sara Hashem for quite a while because I’ve heard amazing things about it, and I love an enemies to lovers trope.

I do hope that the fantasy plot holds up and it’s not all about the relationship – which can be the downfall of some TikTok viral ‘Romantasy’ books.

“At ten years old, the Heir of Jasad flees a massacre that takes her entire family. At fifteen, she buries her first body. At twenty, the clock is ticking on Sylvia’s third attempt at home.

The scorched kingdom is rising again, and Sylvia will have to choose between the life she’s earned and the one she left behind.”

ROLL EIGHT

Reaching the library means that you can choose a ‘free pick’ as a reward.

Janice Hallett is an auto-buy author for me. I find her mixed media crime books to be so fun and engaging. And I’m excited to get my pre-order of A Killer Question, which comes out in the UK on the 4th of September.

The plot feels like it will have that ‘quintessentially British’ feeling most of her books have, as it’s set in a local pub. And the types of people that frequent a local pub regularly are certainly an interesting type of person and normally a mix of different characters.

“Mal and Sue Eastwood were once the kindly landlords of a local village pub, The Case is Altered… But now The Case stands empty, its windows boarded up. What could have happened to Mal and Sue?

Only by sifting through the quiz sheets, the WhatsApps, and Mal and Sue’s hidden past may the truth be revealed. Someone’s not playing fair, so get the drinks in and see if you can get a perfect score.”
