Hayleigh’s Film Club Announcement!

🎀🎀🎀

It’s Friday 20th of June 2025 and about 20 mins into a showing of Pride and Prejudice (2005) at her local theatre, Hayleigh is seen exiting through the front door.

An evening that I was very much looking forward to did not happen. My anxiety was quite high, as I expected to just be able to go in, sit down and then they’d press play, but instead was forced to stand in a bar area and try not to panic for 45mins. Shout out to Lisa though, who was nice to me and said I should join the local film club. It’s not going to happen, but I hope you had a great evening!

What truly tipped me over the edge, and it’s stupid, but these old people laughed at the ‘hand flex’ scene and that’s when I really knew that that was not a safe space.

While I walked home, aside from being disappointed with myself, I decided I would start my own film club. With me as it’s only full time member. Hence the name – Hayleigh’s Film Club. Not creative, but HFC for short makes it sound like a football club and I love that for me.

Obviously, anyone is welcome to join me in this endeavour to watch films that I wouldn’t watch otherwise. There are no obligations, no awkward chit chat before the film starts, and you don’t need to leave the house.

I’ve really thrown myself into the deep end, as this film club will be watching three films a week – two that are new to me and one re-watch ♥ I have a tendency to either watch YouTube or scroll TikTok for hours and I really want to force myself out of that habit – I’ll also be using tv programmes, reading (i.e. physically/audiobooks on Darcy’s dog walk/doing a jigsaw) to get myself away from social media more.

I’ll be watching a film every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday for the rest of the year! All the films are from a list of 350, which I used Letterboxd/my phone gallery/my Netflix and Disney watchlists to compile, using a random number generator for each week.

Once the week is over, I’ll do a weekly wrap-up on my thoughts, which will be posted on the following Monday. This will shift my other content to Thursday from now on.

Without further ado, the schedule for the next four weeks is as follows 🥁:

The random generator gave me, what feels like, a gentle start to the challenge.

I’m most excited to watch Breakfast on Pluto starring Cillian Murphy for the first time. I am excited for all the re-watches! Talking of my endless scrolling, I’m so happy to see The Secret of Moonacre in my near future, because I keep getting edits of it and you know my childhood self loved the bickering. I remember having so much fun watching the original John Walter’s Hairspray, so I’m excited to dust off the dvd! I’m most concerned about Love in the Big City… South Korean cinema, no matter the genre, always seems to make me sad or annoyed, or both.

If you’ve seen any of these films before, let me know your thoughts! And let me know if you decide to join in~

Thanks for reading!

I hope you’re having a lovely day and staying safe ♥
