It’s that time of year when I see the ’25 in 2025′ videos where bookish creators let us know what books they want to read and/or prioritise for the year.
For 2025, I thought I would jump on the bandwagon as there is something satisfying about the number 25.
Cassidy (from CoverswithCassidy) separated her reads into categories and I thought that sounded so smart and fun! I found Cassidy’s channel last year and I find her great to watch 💖
I chose categories that match my own reading and goals. All the books listed are ones that I already own as those are my priority. All titles link to their Goodreads page for more details/synopsis.
5⭐ Predictions

I did a 5⭐ Predictions TBR last year and while I didn’t do an update, this is a mini one as Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley, Dark Rise by C.S. Pacat and Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross are still unread.
I added in A Crane Among Wolves by June Hur because I do think this will be a 5⭐ because we’re back at the palace and those vibes for Hur are immaculate!
Lastly, we have The Ornithologist’s Field Guide to Love by India Holton. I adore her Dangerous Damsel’s series and I am so excited for this new series! It’s giving rivals to lovers where the main guy is already down bad for our female protagonist.
Non-Fiction

I really want to continue reading non-fiction and I’m definitely prioritising The Facemaker by Lindsey Fitzharris as I started it last year (only a few pages in) and what I read was great, but so emotional as it surrounds the development of plastic surgery after the injuries sustained in the Great War. I’m hoping to be in a good space to read this one because it’s such an interesting topic.
Important reads I want to get to this year are Black and British: A Forgotten History by David Olusoga, Chavs: The Demonization of the Working Class by Owen Jones and Killing Thatcher by Rory Carroll. I feel that these topics are ones that I should know more about as they pertain to England and it’s history. I think a lot of the media that saturates the ‘mainstream’ is American, so I want to make a concerted effort to learn more about England’s history and how that has impacted different communities and the country I’m from as a whole.
Lastly, I want to read the essay collection Abolition. Feminism. Now. by Angela Y. Davis, Gina Dent, Erica R. Meiners and Beth E. Richie. Abolition regarding the criminal justice systems and prisons isn’t a topic I know much about, so I’m interested in learning more.
Fantasy

Last year my most read genres were historical and romance, and while that category is coming up, I want to make a good dent in the fantasy reads staring at me from my shelves!
An old favourite of Youtube is The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. I’ve always wanted to read this series, and my sister-in-law has been enjoying it at the moment too.
I’ve not really read any chunky fantasy in a while, but I’m excited to read Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan.The cover is stunning and I’m excited for a quest. The other chunky book is Priestess of the White by Trudi Canavan. I started this about 10yrs ago and never got to the end, so I want to rectify that and read this trilogy about sorcerers and gods.
Recent fantasy releases that I want to read this year are Victory City by Salman Rushdie. I thought Midnight’s Children was okay, but the premise of this one sounds right up my alley! The other is Lady Macbeth by Ava Reid which I’m really looking forward to as I’ve enjoyed other works by Reid. I can imagine this retelling will be dark and a wild ride.
Historical Fiction/Romance

Like I said in the previous section, ‘Historical’ and ‘Romance’ were my most read genres in 2024 and that was, unsurprisingly, because I read a lot of Historical Romance last year! I want to continue this with reading Bringing Down the Duke by Evie Dunmore, Seduce Me at Sunrise by Lisa Kleypas and To Woo and to Wed by Martha Waters. The Kleypas and Waters books are sequels by authors that I really enjoy work from! The romances are so good!!
The above are fun and have pretty low stakes, but ones that are more historical fiction that I want to read are In Memoriam by Alice Winn and Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.
Sequels

A reading goal of mine in 2025 is to read more sequels. I feel like I did well with this in 2024 so want to continue that same momentum into the new year.
There are a two sequels that would mean I finish the series. One of those is Daring and the Duke by Sarah MacLean which is a more serious historical romance and I’m a little nervous about this one due to the pairing, but I’ve enjoyed the other books in the series. The other is As Good As Dead by Holly Jackson and I have no excuse for why I’ve not read this yet!
I want to continue on with T. J. Klune’s Green Creek series with the second book Ravensong. I really want to know more about Gordo and his past with Mark. I want to read Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett to see who Emily can accidentally insult in this one. And the next book comes out this year as well.
Lastly, I want to read the third book – All In – in the Naturals series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I binged the first two books in the series and it was getting a bit repetitive, but I’m looking forward to jumping back into the next crimes.
Thanks for reading!
Do you have your own 25 in 2025? Or do you have any thoughts on my choices?
I hope you’re having a lovely day and staying safe ♥
