August 2022
Remember to stay up to date with the world, listen to those facing atrocities and help spread awareness/donate where you’re able to.
It’s been two months since a Kpop TBR and we’re coming back with f(x)!
f(x) were one of the first girl groups I gave my heart to ♥ They debuted as a 5 member group in 2009 and they have a similar aesthetic to SHINee in that they play with different musical styles. The group is no longer active and no member is now signed to SM Entertainment.
Krystal and Victoria are now better known for their acting, Amber has kept up with making music and Luna has been thriving in the musical scene. Sulli went on to release music, model and act, however, she tragically committed suicide in 2019. Remember to respect and treat female idols kindly, they’re human beings and don’t deserve the hate they get by delusional and cruel anti fans.
Below I have made a little infographic with the prompts and some basic information about the members~
I have loved mood reading while completing prompts in May and June instead of making a set TBR, so for half of my TBR I’m going to make prompts from f(x) songs that I want to complete, and I’ve chosen books for the other half.
Pretty Girl
prompt: girl/woman on the cover
I have several books that can work for this prompt. I have a lot of YA contemporary fantasy such as Dokkaebi and some Cassandra Clare books that have girls on the cover. I’m also really loving historical romance and they always have pretty people on them!
💜💜💜
Love Hate
prompt: enemies to lovers
I love a good enemies to lovers and again I think I’ll probably be reading historical romance for this as that’s a trope that is prolific in the genre!
💜💜💜
Dracula
prompt: vampires
The is one of the prompts that I have a definite book for, especially as it’s the only vampire book on my shelves that I haven’t read yet.
The Beautiful; Renée Ahdieh
In 1872, New Orleans is a city ruled by the dead. But to seventeen-year-old Celine Rousseau, New Orleans provides her a refuge after she’s forced to flee her life as a dressmaker in Paris. Taken in by the sisters of the Ursuline convent along with six other girls, Celine quickly becomes enamored with the vibrant city from the music to the food to the soirées and—especially—to the danger. She soon becomes embroiled in the city’s glitzy underworld, known as La Cour des Lions, after catching the eye of the group’s leader, the enigmatic Sébastien Saint Germain. When the body of one of the girls from the convent is found in the lair of La Cour des Lions, Celine battles her attraction to him and suspicions about Sébastien’s guilt along with the shame of her own horrible secret.
When more bodies are discovered, each crime more gruesome than the last, Celine and New Orleans become gripped by the terror of a serial killer on the loose—one Celine is sure has set her in his sights . . . and who may even be the young man who has stolen her heart. As the murders continue to go unsolved, Celine takes matters into her own hands and soon uncovers something even more shocking: an age-old feud from the darkest creatures of the underworld reveals a truth about Celine she always suspected simmered just beneath the surface.
goodreads
I have been meaning to read this for such a long time because I really liked The Wrath & The Dawn and was so excited to hear that Renée Ahdieh was doing a vampire book, so of course four years later I still haven’t read it 😅
💜💜💜
Step
prompt: read on the go
I tend to daydream a lot, especially when I walk my dog and commute to work, which could be used for audiobooks. If the bus isn’t too loud, I’ll be able to listen (sometimes they sound like they’re trying to take off!) and I’ll always be able to listen while I walk Darcy.
I’m only putting the first book on this list, but I think that if I really put my mind to it, I can finish the trilogy.
The Cruel Prince; Holly Black
Jude was seven when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.
To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.
As Jude becomes more deeply embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, she discovers her own capacity for trickery and bloodshed. But as betrayal threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.
goodreads
I guess this could also fit with Enemies to Lovers as I believe Jude and Cardan have this type of relationship.
girlxoxo monthly motif challenge
Quick Lit – Novellas, Graphic Novels, Poetry Collections, books under 200 pages, one sitting reads.
For this prompt, I will most likely read a manga volume or a small classic (potentially Demian by HermanHesse which is under 200 pages and I own it).
What are you planning on reading in August?
Thanks for reading!
I hope you’re having a lovely day and staying safe ♥
Ahhhh, I need to get out of my book slump. 😢 I wanna read The Cruel Prince too. 😍 Lina loved the trilogy and I love enemies to lovers so I don’t know why I’m waiting. 😄
