Player aired on OCN from September to November in 2018. The 14 episodes took the Saturday & Sunday slots at 22:20pm (a bit of a weird time haha).
Before going into my first thoughts, I would like to put in some trigger warnings – these are the ones that I could think of and I’m sorry if I missed any.
TWs: Rape/sexual assault, suicide, violence, blood, sex crimes (distribution of rape videos online)
Player starts out fast paced and sleek. We follow a group of four criminals who come together to solve crime and make some hefty money from their targets. After handing over important evidence of a high profile chaebol committing crimes to a prosecutor it turns into an elite crime solving team.
The team is headed by Kang Hari (Song Seung Heon) – a con artist with a dubious and mysterious past. So far I really like this character, as he gives of “I only care about the money” vibes, but his actions show otherwise. He’s good at his “job” and he’s the one that seems to have brought the team together in the first place. And can we talk about how hot Song Seung Heon is? π
Next we have internationally acknowledged hacker Im Byung Min (Lee Shi Un) who thinks he’s the one in charge. What he is carge of is all the technology stuff and being resident idiot no.1. Him and resident idiot no.2 Do Jin Woong (Tae Won Suk) were the bickering and softer characters I needed in these opening episodes because things got dark really quick. And while I say soft, Jin Woong is literally a bear of a man who beats so many people up in 120 minutes!
And lastly, we have Chae Ah Ryeong (Krystal). The newest recruit in the team loves fast cars and from her childhood on the streets she picked up a different kind of curriculum. I like how she was quickly integrated into the group and her inclusion really shows how good they all are. I also really enjoy watching Krystal act (stan her and f(x) you’re missing out if you don’t already β₯).
We don’t see much of Prosecutor Jang In Gyu (Kim Won Hae), but we know immediately in these first two episodes is that he’s on the side of the victim and justice. I look forward to seeing him interact in person with our team.
And can we talk about the cameo’s? When Yoo Seung Ho showed up I was so happy! And Hong Suk Chun was great too!
In this drama it’s very much a “the police and chaebol’s are corrupt” story-line we see a lot of, both in drama’s and in reality. I didn’t know much about this drama going in apart from the rag tag team of criminals solving crimes… but this is OCN and I should have known it would be more than that and involve far more hard hitting subject matter.
At first we are swept up in the case of a Chairman committing fraud and laundering and then we go back about a month to when Ah Ryeong is first introduced. The team’s new target is a large rich family and within this investigation, it’s the crimes of youngest member Ji Seung Goo (Kim Sung Chul) that starts the ball rolling. This man is scum and his scenes were distressing to watch.
I will say, because we go back and forth in time, I’m a bit confused on how the two cases correlate. However, I’m more than excited to keep watching to find out! The characters and story are compelling. We got thrown some little clues which have me interested in finding out more about the team and their pasts and how this will effect their camaraderie in the present.

And the production of this drama is wonderful! Watching OCN crime drama’s is such a satisfying experience in that the car chases, action scenes, and smaller details are played out in a stylish way.
