O.W.L’s 2019 || ReadAThon May TBR ✨

‘Wit Beyond Measure is Man’s Greatest Treasure’

This readathon is taking place now! But I knew April wouldn’t be the best time to do this because of writing essays (or procrastinating because my depression was like nah mate!). So I’ve chosen MAY. I have three exams, and I suck at revising, so while I’m failing, at least I can put in some good reading for a fictional career haha

However, I think this is such a fun and innovative challenge and my Ravenclaw self really wants to join in, so I will. Just when everyone else has already done it. I’m always late to the show, so there’s nothing new here!

For the details and all the google drive documents check out the announcement on Book Roast’s Youtube Channel.

This round comes with a list of careers and the qualifications needed! I read through them and finally picked out Ministry Worker, so I have 5 challenges I must complete. And then I want to go into the Department of Mysteries because it sounds cool and I feel like it’s a job that doesn’t involve much contact with others. Living that introvert life!

  • Ancient Runes

For this challenge, you need to read a Retelling. For this I’m going to read The Wrath and the Dawn – Renée Ahdieh – which is a retelling of the collection of Middle Eastern tales ‘One Thousand and One Nights’.

  • Arithmancy

– Work written by more than one author

I don’t think I own a book written by two authors… I read Obsidio this month so…

  • Astronomy

– “Star” in the title

A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas. I’ve heard a lot of negative things about this one, but I’m still kind of intrigued and I hate myself haha ^^”

  • Care of Magical Creatures

For this subject, you much read a book with a land animal on the cover. For this I’m going to read Priestess of the White – Trudi Canavan – which has horses on the cover. This books is 659 pages and high fantasy, so this may be a hard one for me to complete haha

  • Charms

For Charms, one of my musts, you have to read an adult work. For this I’m going to be reading The Miniaturist – Jessie Burton.

  • Defense Against the Dark Arts

In this subject you have to follow the prompt – Reducto: title starts with an “R” – and for this I will be reading The Rising – Kelley Armstrong. I don’t really have the motivation to actually pick this book up, but as I have to complete this challenge I’m going to have to!

  • Divination

With Divination it makes sense to read a book set in the future. For this challenge I will be continuing on with Veronica Roth’s Divergent trilogy – Insurgent (#2) – as it is a dystopian.

  • Herbology

– Plant on the cover

Finding a book in my tbr with a plant on the cover was a lot harder that I anticipated. However, I did remember that The Essex Serpent – Sarah Perry – has a definite William Morris vibe going on and is covered in flowers.

  • History of Magic

Another must is to read a book published at least 10 years ago.

The Tale of the Body Thief (Vampire Chronicle #4) – Anne Rice – was first published in 1992.

  • Muggle Studies

For this subject the challenge is to read a contemporary…. the genre I hardly ever read. Let alone own.

The only book I could think of that fit the category was The Chemist – Stephanie Meyer. I checked Goodreads and 96 people have it on their contemporary shelves, so I’m going with it.

  • Potions

– Next ingredient: sequel

Stolen – Kelley Armstrong – is the second book in the Women of the Underworld series. This is a must and this will definitely be read in May!

  • Transfiguration

This subject’s challenge is to read a book with sprayed edges or a red cover.

I have two with sprayed edges, the last book in the Gone series (I haven’t read 1-4 haha ^^”), and Skulduggery Pleasant. And while I will always be down for reading Skulduggery Pleasant, I’m trying to tackle my TBR this year. Instead, I will have to read a book with a red cover.

I don’t quite know if this means all red or just have red on the cover, but I’m going with the latter. For this challenge I’m going to read Playing with Fire – Gena Showalter.

I’m really excited to do this!

Anyone fancy joining in with me? haha

Thanks for reading! I hope you are having a lovely day~
