It’s that time of the year again! Spookathon is upon us (also how is October? Wasn’t January like yesterday??)
Spookathon is a readathon from October 15th – 21st. It is hosted by three YouTubers:
Kayla: BooksandLala
Shannon: Bookerly
Peter: Peter Likes Books
Just 2 things before I get started:
- I don’t do scary or spooky because I am a wimp haha but I’m going to do my best and spoiler alert – I’m probs not going to read anything scary :p
- Believe me I will be taking huge liberties!~
So the Challenges!!
1. Read a Thriller
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer – Michelle Hodkin
Okay, so I may be clutching at straws here, but Simon and Schuster calls this a thriller and I’m going with it! I don’t know much about what this is about though… it may be super evident to everyone else, but I thought this series was just a paranormal romance.
2. Read a Book with Purple on the Cover
Toil & Trouble: 15 Stories of Women and Witchcraft – Ed. Tess Sharpe
This is an anthology and the group book for the readathon. I’ve seen the cover and it’s super purple, I just have to wait for it to arrive at my door (ideally before or during the readathon) because I couldn’t find it in either Waterstones or WHSmith, so I don’t know if it’s released in the UK yet.
3. Read a Book Not Set in the Current Time Period
The Ghost Bride – Yangzse Choo
This book follows a young girl, Li Lan, who becomes a ghost bride to the deceased son of a wealthy family. The ancient tradition is to appease restless spirits. This book is set in the 18th Century.
4. Read a Book with a Spooky Word in the Title
Six of Crows – Leigh Bardugo
I’m going all Edgar Allan Poe on this one. Ravens are creepy and they basically look like crows, so crows are spooky, right? Like I said I’m taking liberties here! haha
5. Read a Book with Pictures
Map of Days – Ransom Riggs
This book has photographs in because that’s Ransom Rigg’s wonderful aesthetic! I’m so excited to read the fourth book in the Miss Peregrine’s series and it will probably be the first book I pick up during Spookathon!
Are you taking part in Spookathon? If so what are your tbr’s?
Thanks for reading! I hope you’re having a great day~
