September 18 || Wrap Up 📚

I read more books than I realised in September haha

Okay, so 8 books may not be a lot for some people, but I’m pretty happy ♥

Here are the books and what I thought about each:

A Court of Mist and Fury – Sarah J. Maas

23766623I enjoyed ACOTAR and I’ve always heard so much about the sequel. I went into this knowing that I would probably fall in love with Rhysand… and yeah that happened haha

I enjoyed pretty much everything about this. But some parts did lag and some parts just didn’t feel relevant. There are so many characters that I just love and to be honest I’d do anything for the Inner Circle.

Rhysand is super swoonworthy and Feyre has grown into such a badass at the Night Court. I love that the Night Court has allowed Feyre to open up and connect with her own power. I’m excited to see what she accomplishes in the next book.

Spoiler… Maybe…
(but seriously though, mating is supposed to be super rare… but several bonds end up happening in this book? Not so rare then haha)

Bleach 3in1 Vol. 3 (7,8 &9) – Tite Kubo

This mismatched gang is burrowing its way into my heart. I love this new world that we are in now and I’m excited to see what new adventures await them. My only concern is that there are so many character introduced that I’m afraid I won’t be able to keep up.

Timecurse (Darkside #4) / Blackjack (Darkside #5) – Tom Becker

Both

These books are so much bloody fun! I love so many of the characters and to be honest I’m only mildly mad at Tom Becker for breaking my heart so close to the end of the book. This series has a rather bittersweet ending.

I thought that I would be lost as I read the 3rd book years ago and I mean years ago haha, but surprisingly I wasn’t lost. It was so easy to just fall into step with Jonathon and Carnegie.

Also where is my spinoff series?

Notes on a Nervous Planet – Matt Haig

Parts of this book felt very repetitive, but overall this was a stunning little book!

I’ve seen people say that Haig is being middle aged and hating on technology, but I never thought that. And honestly a lot of his thoughts on technology were valid and relatable.

Etiquette & Espionage (Finishing School #1) – Gail Carriger

3.5

The premise is more interesting than the execution. I would have loved for the book to be more concentrated on the school itself and the goings on there as the teachers and other students were intriguing. I understand that the school is not what it seems and the adventure highlights that, but I just wanted more.

However, I did like the book and Sophronia’s antics were fun. But I don’t think I’ll continue with the series.

9781407186122The Amber Spyglass (His Dark Materials #3) – Philip Pullman

Once the religious overtones started in this trilogy, I was a little apprehensive (especially as someone who has read the entire Narnia chronicles!) However, it was fascinating! And I am always here for gay angels! 🙏

I did feel that some parts, especially dust and the conclusions about it seemed rushed or unexplained.

I love Lyra and Will and my over emotional brain did not enjoy this ending!

Midnight (Skulduggery Pleasant #11) – Derek Landy

38733752

3.5

I’m so conflicted. I enjoyed the story and Landy’s writing is and has always been fun, fast paced and enjoyable. However, there are new characters that I just don’t care about. I’m starting to like Omen more and more, but the other groups are just not that interesting. And Abyssinia… she’s such a weak villain. And I’m not even that worried about the dummy President.

Val and Skulduggery are perfect together, but they don’t spend enough time together in this Phase 2. I want my babies to be sarcastic with each other and detect. And I understand that Val has been through so much and is working stuff out, but she took 5 years out for that… I just need her to have more heart to hearts with Skulduggery.

Hopefully, the books pick up for me, because I want to like these books. Hell I want to love these books! I’m so invested in this world and I would be a different person without them. I don’t want that to change.

32613366The Hate U Give – Angie Thomas

I read this book in one sitting and wow. This was incredibly insightful into a situation that I, a white English woman, will never experience.

I don’t read contemporary often, but these kinds of books that highlight events of discrimination and marginalisation that go on every day. And I would highly recommend reading Angie Thomas’ Author’s Note ♥

What books did you read in September? Were you happy with them?

Thank you for reading! I hope you have a lovely day~

  1. Netflix has just released the Warner Bros film Bleach. From the trailer it looks really good and was praised quite highly in Japan for its faithful reproduction. It turns out that Tite Kubo was involved in the film’s production.

A series of books I really enjoyed were the the Cyber Chronicles by TC Southwell. The synopsis in part reads:

When Queen Tassin Alrade of Arlin is forced to flee her kingdom on the backwater planet of Omega Five, she has no idea that the strange warrior who helps her is a cyborg; the deadliest hi-tech killing machine ever created. Her world has forgotten the technology that almost destroyed it, but then a freak accident damages the micro-supercomputer that controls Sabre, and he is free to take charge of his destiny.
