5. BTOB “It’s Okay” MV/Song Review!

Friday has come and with it BTOB’s ‘It’s Okay’. This music video came 5th on Soompi’s List.

It has a great message and is definitely something I may come back to, as I’m feeling pretty stressed out now about exams and essays due next week *cries*

Story:

This mv is full of a lot of things happening, however, I felt the main underlying message and feature of the video was that things can be tough, but that it’s going to be okay.

Tough times pass when we least expect them to, or once we have worked super hard to make that change, or when someone sees us struggling and chooses to help, or when we at some moment in our life decide to make the change that will make everything okay. Now I don’t think that this is saying that tough times will never occur again, just that they will pass and it will be okay.

When I looked at the lyrics (which  you can see here) I didn’t realise, although I probably should have, especially as SungJae is wearing giant headphones and Ilhoon is radio presenter, but that the song is sort of a song (literally it says so) for people to listen to and know that it’s going to be okay.

The lyrics ask many questions and have sort of anecdotal parts and I like that. It makes it feel more real and easier to then relate to the song.

These are three of my favourite lyrics:

“This song is almost over – But there’s still a lot
I haven’t said – Everyone probably feels the same”

“I’m a small paper boat
Lost during voyage without coordinates”

“Even if things are hard, It’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok
Everything will be ok I believe in you”

Visuals:

I really liked this video, I thought the different storylines were great and how they culminated at the end and you saw other peoples lives intermingle in the same space. Especially because of the dialogue parts that were thrown in as well. I think that makes the video and message more chance to be conveyed. And I liked that you didn’t necessarily need to know Korean, because it was pretty obvious what was happening.

The MV gives off a very drama feel and I love that! Especially running such a blog like this haha :p

Oh and to be honest, I would watch it, and I would probably be most invested in Ilhoon presenter and cafe waitress , oh and MinHyuk’s maybe. I love ‘love’ I’m sorry haha ♥

I liked how we saw it start out with SungJae who was having a good time and then the tough time came when he was tired, his feet hurt and he had no water, and then back to a time where he didn’t have such tough struggles.

I felt that even though a lot was happening, I wasn’t overwhelmed by everything and I felt that video flowed nicely from scene to scene.

Vocals:

With the theme that Ilhoon is a radio presenter, I thought it was quite interesting how they had dialogue over most of his rap, which gave the impression that 1. he was in the background on the radio and also 2. it kind of shows how these negative thoughts can just just be playing in your mind even when you are focused on and doing other things.

I liked that there was a kind of dramatic lull where we were given a scene from a drama, and when the music came back, the rap, this time MinHyuk’s, was a lot stronger in the framework of the song. A sort of culmination of questioning yourself, maybe.

I feel that with 3 rappers in the group, that the fact that most of the song had that element in, there was still a lovely melody made by the vocalists of the group.

Star Ratings:

  • Understandable Storyline: 4/5☆
  • Video Production: 4/5☆
  • Vocals: 4/5☆
  • Overall Package: 7/10☆

I’m also going to put the dance version here because it is soooo cool!!! The use of the microphone and the stools. I love it when a kpop group is made up of a bunch of guys who don’t have the greatest reputation for being cool, and when they perform they just ooze cool! I don’t know if that made any sense, but here it is:

Thank you for reading~

  1. Very interesting analysis of the song. I felt that the song was out of the range of the group even though they had three rappers but they managed to pull it off quite well. Great job analyzing the story and aspects of the video; I didn’t even notice them :D.

I am also a K-POP blogger and I just started so it would be good to get another person’s view on the song. The link is https://hallyudonsaeng.wordpress.com
